MTU @ tUMD: Jack Connolly>Spencer Abbott & Austin Smith

still didn't hear a better explanation though.

Let biddy try, it is a dish that combines some foods together that sometimes tastes good. There are many different types just like there are many types of pasties.

Don't know how good of an explanation that is.

Remember folks. Northern MN has pasties and lots of Finns. Just like the UP. Although the MN ones are less crazy :)

geezer guesses that tater tots and ground beef always have a place in the dish.

geezer has found your second observation to be quite accurate having spent some time around Two Harbors, Virginia etc. the MN Finns are the ones that were smart enough to get out of the U.P. or their ancestors bypassed it altogether although some of them are communists. literally.

Although pasties are Cornish and the world pasty championships will be in Cornwall this March.

huskyfan will teach the young ones

hotdish is a casserole, beloved of moms, Scandianavians church ladies and the Campbell Soup Company.

It consists of a protein (tuna, ham, burger) mixed with a starch (rice, potato, noodles) and a vegetable (frozen peas, frozen mixed vegetables, corn) and held together by a cream of something soup (mushroom, chicken). Depending on the cook and the choices it can be the best thing you have ever had or vile and disgusting.

as geezer suspected... people who claim hotdish is awesome are basically saying, "food is good." It's like saying, "geezer enjoys weather."

Dirty feels geezer knows much about communists as his obvious disdain for hotdish can only mean that geezer is one himself.

RWD is not sure that a soup is a requirement for a hotdish. A cheese-ish sauce works.

In other news, tSG knows that biddco is wrong with this thread title because Jack Connolly is not better than both Spencer Abbott AND Austin Smith. tSG concedes that he may be better than Abbott OR Smith but not Abbott AND Smith.

furthermore, geezer realizes that while it's easy to look past Tech, he feels the thread title disrespects our team and wishes the claim had been that Connolly > Brett Olson or some combination of Huskies so that it would have something to do with this weekend's games.
Tech sweep of Anchorage was fun, now it's back to reality.

Yes, literally indeed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gus_Hall

I think many (like my ancestors went straight to Northern Minnesota) Minnesota Finns went straight to Northern Minnesota (Biddco is 1/4 Finn!).

No he is :D

It is not a shot at Tech. It is a shot at a few MTU fans who support other candidate for Hobey because of their sour grapes. :)

Seriously though, we will see how the season plays out as either of these three candidates could win it (or another candidate of course *cough*Justin Schultz*cough*).

tSG must inform geezer that it has more to do with tSG and bigblue_dl on twitter talking about Austin Smith being the better hobey candidate than Jack Connolly and biddco wanting to take a jab at them for that.

Re: MTU @ tUMD: Jack Connolly>Spencer Abbott & Austin Smith

tDiva questions the statement that tIron Range Finns are less crazy than tUP Finns.

tDiva also would like to state that a non-Minnesota translation of "hot dish" would be "casserole", though she is sure the residents of her new home state will be quick to correct her. However, that may have saved 10-15 posts earlier in this thread, before the Hobey Baker candidate wankfest started up again.

ETA: ah, it seems that the translation tDiva offered had already been posed, and she was correct in the shooting down by the natives. Still, the tater tot casserole tDiva ate growing up was an identical freaking recipe to what she has seen for tater tot hotdish.

huskyfan is thinking about this. this is newfangled stuff and messing with tried trusted and true hotdish. but huskyfan is open to new ideas and huskyfan thinks, perhaps Velveeta Cheese could replace the cream soup.

example : good hotdish : pork chops potatoes onion cream of mushroom soup
chicken breast rice mushrooms cream of mushroom soup

bad hotdish : tuna noodles bag of frozen peas cream of mushroom soup

huskyfan is skeptical of any dish involving cream of celery soup as this does not seem right. but huskyfan is thinking about the cheese.

if this truly is a hotdish, one of my favorites does involved cream of celery soup, but it also includes cream of chicken and cream of mushroom.

huskyfan, as a Swede, is a bit skeptical of cream of celery soup. huskyfan believes cream of celery soup may fall into the "vegetable" catagory. so it would be meat/starch/vegetable/vegetable. this cannot be.

Re: MTU @ tUMD: Jack Connolly>Spencer Abbott & Austin Smith

tBrenthoven loves TTH (even with cream of mushroom soup), even though tBrenthoven hates anything having to do with mushrooms. That's how awesome TTH is.

tBrenthoven knows that tIron Rangers are crazy, but tBrenthoven thinks they are more of a "get off my lawn, you Cidiot (term for one from tTwin Cities)" crazy rather than backwoods inbred crazy, like tFoopers.

tBrenthoven is looking forward to tAnchor Bar, as tBrenthoven has never been there. tBrenthoven also hopes that many of ttUMD Twin Citians make the trip.

Re: MTU @ tUMD: Jack Connolly>Spencer Abbott & Austin Smith

Vizoroo woders how game thread has devolved into tuna noodle casserole/hot dish:eek:
