MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

FS Detroit and FS North both have Plus channels for extra programming. FSN+ is airing all three CCHA games on Friday and Saturday, you'd think FSD+ could reciprocate that and air the WCHA games.
It would be nice for FSD to air the Thursday game, seeing as it's a Michigan university playing. There isn't a conflict between the Wings or Pistons that night (Thursday) for either game to air.

Friday night, both CCHA games are on FSD+ as the Pistons are on FSD. So, no chance of airing the WCHA games that night.

Saturday night, the CCHA Championship game is on FSD, with MHSAA finals on FSD+ during the Championship game. So, again, no airing of the WCHA game could happen.

Best bet would be to pick up just the MTU game Thursday... Depending on how much airtime MTU wanted to buy, FSD may be willing to listen...

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

For the sake of us Tech fans who get Fox Sports Detroit but not any of the other Fox Sports channels that are airing the game tomorrow, please join me in emailing FSD (fsdviewerinfo@foxsports.net) to ask them to pick up the game. Kind of doubt it will work, but it never hurts to ask.

Or pay the extra 5-10 bucks this month and buy the sports package. I've done this in the past for Dish network and Charter. I actually kept the Charter one because I get lots of college hockey games each winter. FSN, FCS, etc. Some of them even come with NESN for that minor league east coast hockey in a pinch (just checking for trolls).

As nice as the attention is, apparently the perception that we don't have any talent and play a strict trap game hasn't been debunked yet. To be fair, its been one season, so I guess it's forgivable.

That's the kind of perceptions outsiders will have when they fail to look at the facts.
WCHA Only stats
2010-11 MTU Goals For 49
2011-12 MTU Goals For 85
2011-12 1st place MN Goals For 88

The big difference in this comparison - MTU allowed 87, MN allowed 57. That's almost exactly a goal per game difference (28 WCHA games). In 5 games this season one less goal means Tech gets a win rather than a tie or gets a tie instead of a loss. Five more points puts Tech 5th in the conference without even subracting the points away from the opposing team.

Moral of the story, one goal per game is good for about three places in the standings for Tech. The more open style of offense is paying some dividends.

Surprising stat of the day: Brad Stebner was +15 in WCHA games this season

Fox Sports Detroit? Michigan Tech is not on their radar. They wold rather show Baylor women's basketball than any Michigan college sport not based in Ann Arbor or east Lansing. Just look a their thorough GLI coverage lately . . . .

Actually, FSD did show both Michigan Tech @ Minnesota games, and one of them was live...their GLI coverage is pathetic but I wouldn't be surprised if it expands next year and beyond.

My point was that for just a few bucks you can get Fox Sports North and not worry about Fox Sports Detroit's programming decisions.

I see the general answer has been to buy FSN, but e-mails would be appreciated. Come on, they are a school from the state of Michigan with a significant amount of alumni in SouthEast, MI and in the final 5 and not on FSD. It should be! The AD should be more pro-active on this. In the meantime, e-mail them.

If anybody will be at home watching on TV and is interested in running the live chat, send me an email. It's pretty straight forward.

ha! perfect. looking ahead there, George?

Geesh, so playing the WCHA All Rookie Team Goalie with a 2.08 GAA and a .928 saves % is bulletin material?????? Brittain's GAA is 2.44 and his saves % is .925. The goalie rotation has been in place the last few weekends, nothing shocking about this.

The point is he publicly states who plays Friday, not which goaltender.
