MSU Spartans Offseason

Re: MSU Spartans Offseason

Pretty much the only business left for me is checking out the schedule. I hope it is released soon.

I also hope it's pretty soft. I know we have Denver and North Dakota in there, though.

Yes, it's cool loading the schedule with games against premier opponents but it is less cool when you lose most of those games.

We also have Tech and Ferris at home, as well as a trip up to Sault Ste Marie.

Well, that's 4 series in which we will likely be underdogs. You would think we could count on beating up on LSSU but Whitten seems to have them moving in a better direction.

I honestly believe the incoming freshman class will have us at least a little excited next season. I am not optimistic they will be ready to launch this team north of .500 territory next year. I also don't think we'll see any sort of Wisconsin style fall.

Re: MSU Spartans Offseason

According to the schedule thread, we still have six NC games to be filled.

WCHA teams have open slots, but they've all unveiled their schedules already.

That leaves:
HE: Northeastern (I believe we're doing the MBB, WBB, hockey triple header in EL this year), Vermont, Notre Dame, UNH, UMass, Maine, UConn, BC
ECAC: Union, Quinnipiac, Princeton, Harvard
AHC: All but RIT and Air Force.
Ind: Arizona St

I think you can lock in Arizona State and Northeastern.

I admire your optimism.

We lost a bunch of key players over the offseason and I'm not as high on the incoming freshmen. I'm bracing for something near 30 losses.

Re: MSU Spartans Offseason

Schedule is unveiled.

OOC includes:
Toronto
at LSSU
vs Denver
vs Princeton (1)
vs Tech
vs Ferris (h/h)
at NoDak
vs Northeastern (1)
GLI

Looks to be all Fri/Sat except for NE unless adjustments are made after basketball schedules are put out.

Re: MSU Spartans Offseason

Looking at the schedule, Only 14 Non-con games. Two fewer then last season.
With the number of Freshmen, and throw in a Goalie who, when he has played wasn't that good, I envision a record of 3-9 when MSU starts B10 play.

Re: MSU Spartans Offseason

I saw that the Golf Teams have a fabulous $5,000,000 new practice facility at Akers West. Has anyone heard of any updates concerning the re-modeling of Munn? The entrance/atrium/trophy cases etc....

Got your checkbook ready? Probably the only way it's going to happen. No one wants to attach their name to the product on the ice right now.

The main project has been stalled for at least two years now. It's still on the Spartan Fund website, but you have to dig for it.

The less-expensive aspects of the project have been completed: The new seats, scoreboards, lighting and video boards. The rest hasn't been touched.

After looking at the schedule and doing a little research, I am not quite as optimistic. Most of our opponents, who were already better than us, lose less from last season(with the exception of NoDak but I doubt it will matter how much they lose or retain) LSSU returns almost everyone and so does NE after one of the most impressive 2nd half turnarounds anyone has seen.

I could see us having anywhere from 1-5 wins come December and I think 5 isn't very likely.

That's ok. The nine year plan still has four years left for turnaround.

Re: MSU Spartans Offseason

We'll see if the spin doctoring changes at all very soon. 3 sources have confirmed that MSU assistant AD/SID John Lewandowski has been fired by the university. He wasn't the day-to-day guy with hockey but this signals a definite change in course from a PR standpoint.
