MSU Spartans 2016-17 (Volleyball Looks Like a Legit Alternative)

Re: MSU Spartans 2016-17 (Volleyball Looks Like a Legit Alternative)

Interesting to only me: My dad was pushing for Gwoz really hard to replace Mason. Think of where we'd be if that happened.

Oh well.

I hope the new coach restores the old stick salute Shadows post game. I have a low level contact in the AD who told me a few months ago tha Anastos Ais the one who wanted it changed. Why? No idea.

Yeah, this should be one of the first things our students and fans should lobby for once the new coach is hired. The Shadows stick salute was a great tradition.

Another matter is whether or not this development will change the decisions of Appleton and maybe Osburn, whatever they may be.

If they stick around I think the next coach will have some nice pieces to work with.

Here's what happens when the locals start to speculate after paying zero attention to hockey in general in the last few seasons.

For one, don't bother approaching Mel Pearson, you're wasting your time and effort. That's a non-starter.

Two, why would you want to hire a guy like Brekke who has never been a head coach? Did you not pay attention to the last guy in the job?

Three, Leaman is the only suggestion with any merit. I'm sure you heard it somewhere else and parroted the idea, because there's no way you knew anything about him.

Fourth - and most revealing of your hockey knowledge - Osiecki is not a scout for the Blackhawks, he was on the staff at Wisconsin all season.

From the article in the part mentioning Leaman:

Leaman also won a championship as an assistant coach at Harvard back in 1999.

Um, Maine won the NCAA Championship in 1999. Maybe they meant the ECAC?

Re: MSU Spartans 2016-17 (Volleyball Looks Like a Legit Alternative)

Miami went to the championship in 2014? Uh, no - 2009. They didn't even make the playoffs in 2014. :p

No, they must have meant Maine because Leaman spent a year there as a volunteer assistant for Shawn Walsh in 98-99. So the screw-up was the school, not the year.

I'm not sure he scouted for the Blackhawks either. He was the associate head coach of the Rockford Ice Hogs (Blackhawks AHL affiliate) for two years before returning to Wisconsin a year ago.

Yes; there is also the matter of who will keep their commitments for 2017-18 and beyond, outside of those who've signed their letters. Despite everything, it's surprising sometimes how committed a player is to a coach. In this case however the risk is definitely x3 worth it.

Re: MSU Spartans 2016-17 (Volleyball Looks Like a Legit Alternative)

I don't think there should be any debate that the radio & newspaper hockey knowledge & reporting experience around here is very uneven anymore.

If the ultimate source of knowledge is on a par with Neil Koekpe, you're probably getting good information. If it's on a par with Tim Staudt, they you get - well - what you've seen quoted here today.

Then there's this beauty:

Zak DeBeaussaert said:
The USA NTDP haven’t made the USHL playoffs since 2011-12, meaning that while Cole and Luongo have been in positions of significance there the program has struggled. The NTDP’s USHL record since 2013-14 is 98-116-14-2. That recent track record shouldn’t suggest a turnaround for MSU if either are hired.

Zak apparently doesn't understand what the National Team Development Program is and why it exists.

At least on Twitter, Staudt said Bergeron and Gwozdecky should be two names we should keep in mind.

This is just drivel.

OMG you seriously can't make this stuff up. Look at this clown!

https://twitter.com/zakdebeaussaert

He attended GVSU (not that there's anything wrong with that) and received an award for his work broadcasting a Women's College Hockey game (GVSU vs sparty). Look out Pam Ward!

Fifth - If you knew anything about the NTDP Program you would know that the team (s) records in the USHL have zero relevance to the ability of the coaching staff.

He's obviously clueless. Didn't bother to do the research to realize that there are two coaches of the USNTDP. Each takes a group for two years so the U17 record isn't entirely Cole's.

Edit: Someone must have read the posts on this site. The original article has been corrected. Lol. Is this guy getting paid?
