MSU Spartan recruiting

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

Excellent! will he be joining us next year or in 2012?

Either way, any good news is helpful these days.

Good question. There are two solid d-men who could come in this fall, albeit with limited playing time in the 2010/11 season. Question is who would leave or be on the shelf for either of them to enroll this summer.

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

He seems like he'd be the type of kid that'd be better off staying another year in juniors. His size is enticing, but the rest of his game could probably benefit from another year in Alberta.

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

Any D man thinking of coming in next season has to know that breaking into the games could be tough. The following season though, there will be a chance of playing right away. If they have eligibility left for the juniors they may be better off taking it.

edit: Heisenberg's site shows him as coming in this fall. It's going to be interesting to see what may change over the next couple of months with the D.

Going to be a scramble even without incoming freshmen. Worse, unless they can unravel the mess that Comley left on the back-end. Still need punch up front.

Technically, the team currently has 9 rostered defensemen (includes Chelios), with seven that played regularly. Two forwards graduated and one has left for greener grass. (Two of those three played regularly, with Shean playing some.) Something has to shift for any new players, based solely on scholarships as there are only two (and a partial?) open. Right now, Anastos has some real homework to undertake as there isn't room currently for many new players as-is, yet there are some holes to fill. 2012 is going to have a bunch of openings, so what do the players do?

I agree. Another year of seasoning will only be beneficial for him but if he comes in this next year then i hope he can make an impact.

We badly need to pull in a few scorers. We've seen this team get stuck at times last year and without Gazely's spark and Grant's assists, things will only be tougher next year unless a couple people have Perlini-like breakouts next year.

Despite my apparent fascination with new talent, I'm equally as interested in seeing how current players evolve. I am convinced that some of our forwards are on cusp of breakout years, given a new, shall we say, environment - the right motivation and philosophy.
And the right lines. You look at some of the numbers that guys like Dean Chelios, Wolfe, Reimer put up in juniors and their ability to find the back of the net in big situations and you gotta think with the right combinations they can put up numbers again.

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

Impressions after taking in the Muskegon v. Chicago game last night. Berry's ready. Walsh could jump in, but given the current roster/scholarship situation, could certainly only gain from staying another season. DeBlouw's got amazing hands, skating and instinct, but needs to fill out a bit. Gunn looks like he's still out there for the minutes, trying to get in condition.

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

Central Scouting for the 2011 NHL entry draft has Reid Boucher as the #113-ranked North American skater - a jump from his #206 in the mid-term rankings.
Tanner Sorenson is ranked at #180.

As an aside, though Yanakeff's been scouted at Munn, he's dropped off the North American goalie list.

Eh, no worries. We know the kid can ball.

Anyways, i am already totally jacked for next season. I think this roster is much better than they've shown this past year and with a couple talented freshman added on and being rejuvenated by the coaching change, I believe we can begin a new and exciting era.

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

Ouch... :(

I was excited to see the kid in green and white. Sounded like he had a ton of talent. Not a crushing blow because of depth, but I'd be lying if I said that it wasn't a pretty bad one.

He had a ton of potential as a 16-year-old, but in the USHL his numbers were well behind where they should have been.

I did notice his numbers were way below what I thought they'd be.

Still, I think, once upon a time, I put Sinelli in a list of five or six kids that we absolutely couldn't lose due to decommitments. I still stand by that statement, but, though still painful, again, it's not a totally crushing blow.

I'll alert some of next season's student section members to heckle the hell out of the kid when he comes to Munn, though. Can't have any of that traitorous stuff. :D;)

Re: MSU Spartan recruiting

Does anyone know if MSU has ever expressed any interest in Gibby's son Kevin (Michigan Warriors- NAHL)? Just curious.

I agree. But IMO Spartans need a big time forward for 2011 that can provide the punch needed now

I don't believe all 24 on the current roster are going to make the transition to Anastos' staff's style/ethic/culture. I've got to believe there will be more than 3 incoming freshmen this Fall. And one of them will make an immediate scoring impact.

Tough to find a TOP recruit in May. Maybe next season?

Sure. Maybe not even next season ... unless TA is able to get a recruit or 2 to switch commitments. But this is not to say someone who was looking at 2012 as a possibility can't take the 2011 option.

And speaking of 2012's (no, he won't be able to deviate from that schedule), and at the risk of over-hyping a 5'9 forward, here's your latest Boucher article - the "stone-cold killer" :D.
