MSU Spartan off-season - the grand flame-out

Re: MSU Spartan off-season - the grand flame-out

Breaking news (that has broken my heart)...

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed forward Corey Tropp to a three-year entry level contract. Tropp, Buffalo’s third-round choice (89th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft, recently completed his junior season at Michigan State.

Well, it's not like any of us didn't see it coming. Best of luck to Tropper...

Still like what we've got for 2010/2011.

OK, so we lose about 47% of our goal scoring in league, but only 22% of point production.

Meanwhile, more scoring punch at junior 'A' level coming in than any of the past two seasons.

The real question mark is if guys like Leveille and Grant can kick it into gear. Goaltending should be solid, and with Palmisano getting some time at Wings development camp, he could be even better.

Re: MSU Spartan off-season - the grand flame-out

Congratulations Mr. Tropp and good luck!

I also still like our team for next season but i fear that we've now lost the pieces that would have allowed us to be great. I don't think we will have any real star power but our roster should be packed with solid players who can get the job done. I think we will be more fundamentally sound than last year and the big question will be if we've got the finish to put points on the board.

Kinda the way I look at it. No superstars but I see no weaknesses, either.

Oh for you calendar watchers, I believe we're at 3 mos. + 1 day until green y white game.

I agree that Tropp leaving is bad, but not crippling. We have lost a tremendous amount of leadership and offensive punch, but we also have a tremendous amount of young talent that is yet to find it's stride. I think the Juniors will have a break out season, right on cue. It will be important to establish quality lines right out of fall camp so we don't have to spend months trying to figure out how we are going to score goals.

Matt Deblouw (Muskegon USHL) has committed to MSU for either 2011 or 2012.

"Jake Chelios? Slick. Slick slick slick. Still raw at points and perhaps so balanced that he doesn't stick out, but he's skates well, shoots well, passes well, sees the ice well, competes, works hard, and looks like somebody on his way to bigger and better things."

Has the potential to do a lot of things Dean didn't do his rookie season. It was cool to see Fischer's name come up as part of this.

Do you know what the other team's name will be? (Team "Datsyuk" maybe?).
It will be interesting to see what Dean will look like in this thing - also how well Palmisano does.

Team Lidstrom

Palmisano didn't receive the glowing review that Jake did.

"Dean Chelios is a sniper, pure and simple, a player who hustles up the ice with the puck on his stick skating faster than the puck-less players sent to track him down, and he's small but competes his butt off."

Where was this Dean Chelios last year?

Exactly. Gives you some idea of how many grains of salt you should take that analysis with.

Gosh, do you think it might be possible that he's actually GOTTEN BETTER since March? That sort of thing does tend to happen with time and effort. Come October, we'll all get to judge for ourselves - until then, someone else's viewpoint is all we have.
