Banshees of Inshirin is now on hbo max.

def a better film than Tar, another one supposedly in running for best picture

Watched Banshees today. It's pretty good and I can see why it's getting lots of noms for awards. Appears that it and Everything Everywhere All At Once will likely lead in total nominations during award season. Both were nominated for best musical or comedy at the Golden Globes but while Banshees has some moments of dark comedy I have trouble seeing it as a comedy. I enjoyed Everything more so I'd be rooting for it but Colin Farrell deserves some notice for his performance.

My parents watched it and mom called me and said “wtf is this”

def won’t have them watch Tar or everything everywhere all at once then

Get Out is still my favorite Golden Globe comedy of all time. That was one hilarious movie!

I also loved Everything

Tar was atrocious. Just saw big article last week about how audiences sometimes don’t resonate with movies that seem to be made just to please critics (lol) with a picture of Tar on the headline.

tar had a good idea, phenomenal cast. But too long and often disjointed, with one review calling it absolutely tar-ible. I hated it but hated it less than the entire theater around me

Pretty quiet week before Christmas around southern California. Just rumors that James Gunn is going to be fired by Time/Warner/DC/HBO/Google/Apple ..whoever the hell runs that place now. Todd Phillips was supposed to run DC instead but that fell through and Gunn was Plan B. Allegedly.

Also, the streets are flowing red with the blood of Disney executives in the wake of the financial disaster that is Avatar 2. Even though the film 2x the original's opening and appears to be on track for at least $600 million domestic. It captured 95% of the Chinese box office returns this weekend, but with the lockdowns for COVID continuing throughout China it looks like the worldwide business will take a significant hit. Poor Disney may have to make due with only a billion and a half dollars. Stock for the Mouse House is at a low since March 2020.

But other than that, Mrs Lincoln enjoyed the play.

Doesn't A2 need to gross $2.2B just to break even?

Probably shouldn't wait 13 yrs to release a 2nd movie. Opposite problem of Star Wars over saturation. No one cares about Avatar anymore.

No...that was clickbait. It does need I believe a billion if you factor in advertising.

And I will bet money it doesn't hit $600 million domestic. It won't have the same "I need to watch it eleventy times!!!"effect because 3D is played out and the story (from what AA fans are even saying) mostly is meh. In an era of blockbusters every 12 seconds Avatar is pase...

And James Gunn is not getting fired if anyone seriously is saying that they are dumber than Elon Musk.

Mookie watched silent night on the first leg of his journey to the US for xmas.

dam british humor :-)
holy chit fukcing funny

Watched What About Bob this morning at work. Still funny, even if parts of it are outdated.

"There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don't."

I Love You, Alice B. Toklas, B-

Both Sellers and Leigh Taylor-Young portray essentially likeable people, and some of the supporting actors, and I think there is more to this than first appears. It definitely didn't fully capture what it set out to like Harold and Maude, but even as a miss it is interesting like Hair.

In fact this is a rare movie without any negative characters. Some are (very) annoying, but everyone has a good heart. The dramatic obstacle is either Man vs World or Man vs Self.

Mookie also caught everything everywhere at all the time (close to the actual title). That was all over the place, but enjoyed it.
