Movies 2026: Shame and Money

I am usually decades behind on movies, but I saw Project Hail Mary and it was fantastic.

It mostly does the book justice, and I enjoyed it a lot, but it does cut out some fun moments from the book that help give a little more of a socially awkward feel for Dr. Grace.

I a took a PTO day today because I’m beyond stoked to see Coyote vs. Acme. Like “Joker” and “Kill The Messenger” this movie has a great message from everything I’ve heard.

Welp…10. “Coyote vs. Acme” met the lofty expectations based on the critic reviews and my personal feelings/thoughts on the inspiration for this film.

They hit every note that could be hit like Jim Henson did with his movies for the muppets.

Home run!!!

COYOTE vs ACME is absolutely a 9 or a 9.5 out of 10 for me. It works on all levels =)

Just to show an example of the depth present here:

The best gag in the movie is a character getting hit in the face... Shocking for a Looney Toons movie, I know. That in itself will work for everyone, kids, adults, whomever... But without spoiling anything, the genius and complexity comes in when you understand the character being hit and why there is irony present when they are hit with the item that they are being hit with... That is why I laughed for a solid 45-60 seconds after that 5 second gag... A+ here =)

Coyote vs Acme was projected for about $6 million this weekend. It did over $15 million.

Which is nice, but Ketchup paid $50 million for it (and another $10 million marketing) so it needs to hit about $100 million to break even. Not happening.

So Ketchup just bought about $30-40 million of good PR. Hope the company can capitalize on the karma...

Taking the grandkids to see Coyote v Acme this weekend. I asked the boy, have you ever seen a coyote/roadrunner cartoon? Uhhhh. I told him get your sister and check a couple out before we go.

Coyote vs Acme was projected for about $6 million this weekend. It did over $15 million.

Which is nice, but Ketchup paid $50 million for it (and another $10 million marketing) so it needs to hit about $100 million to break even. Not happening.

So Ketchup just bought about $30-40 million of good PR. Hope the company can capitalize on the karma...

Digital / DVD will more than make up for that.

They only earned $8M on their previous Loony Tunes distribution: The Day the Earth Blew Up. Terms of their buyout of the film were never disclosed, but they also hinted streaming and sales cover their costs.

I hope you're right. It'll be interesting to see where this ends up streaming.

Today's kids have no exposure to Looney Tunes and no interest in this movie. Film reviewers I follow asked if their kids wanted to attend with them, and all (ages 6-15) said no.

$23 million in ticket sales opening weekend. That’s just over 1/3 of the outlay.

Word of mouth has been very strong and I think the movie will at least have another $10-15 million weekend coming up.

I hope Ketchup Entertainment can release more looney toons shows or
Movies if they remain at this quality.
