Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

Nolan is done...his Batman story is over and thank God for that. Batfleck will be something completely different and better. (imho)

And I say this as a huge Nolan BaleBats but by the end of Rises there could be no more Bruce Wayne as Batman. Not to mention Alfred abandoned him (never happen) and he quit being Batman not once but twice. (completely unlike Batman in every way)

I was gonna post the trailer but I wanted to avoid what will ultimately turn into a DC vs. Marvel fight. People worry too much about what others like these days :)

Oh dear...

After the last three absolute masterpieces, I'm... Will someone write a check out to Nolan for $Everything?
Wasn't there supposed to be a Wonder Woman in this movie? Well at least she might get a decent solo movie... **** it.

But, according to multiple sources close to the project, the director’s vision for the movie was vastly different from the studio’s view. MacLaren envisioned the DC Comics-based “Wonder Woman” movie as an epic origin tale in the vein of “Braveheart,” whereas Warner wanted a more character-driven story that was less heavy on action.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

She is but it is not a huge role this is Batman and Superman primarily.

And MacLaren was replaced by Patty Jenkins who directed Monster. The rumors of what MacLaren wanted to do make Joss Whedon's failed attempt at script look plausible. She was not right for the film which sucks but Jenkins is good replacement. (and it doesnt start filming for 6 months)

Speaking of Whedon he is getting sued for ripping off Cabin in the Woods and it sounds like he is going to pay big time for it.

I was never a comic book fan, but I thought Nolan's Batman was a good take on the franchise. The third movie, IMO, suffered from its superhuman cartoon villain and some writing towards the end that was ridiculous even by comic book standards.

It suffered from the fact that Nolan didnt want to make it after Heath died...

I liked it cause it gave Batman a happy ending but the idea of Batman quitting (twice) ticked off a lot of Bat fans.

We will see, I like Snyder and I have a massive man-crush on Batfleck so do many of the people I talk to to so we are pumped to see a new interpretation.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

Except batman has always been a tortured soul. Quitting seems like it would be right up his alley.

It's an extremely dark character that has been muddled by Adam West and the garbage from the 90s and early 2000s

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

Oh he is always tortured...hence why he never quits cause crime and evil never quit.

Like I said it isnt me, the ending to me was fine. Honestly though Rises was the weakest of the 3 and it isnt even close.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

He kind of quit out of necessity in the 2nd one, though. All the "crime" (the big stuff, anyways) was over with, anyways. The second time around, quitting was voluntary. Him quitting or not could be argued by either side, both with valid points.

I thought Rises was a better story, but DK easily had the best villian, and possibly the best movie villian ever (personal nomination to go toe-to-toe with Joker would be Hannibal Lecter; Lecter's thing could actually happen quite easily; and it has).

Part 3s always have the problem that a) it is has to be bigger than part 2, so that means way too much going on, and b) it needs to wrap things up with a nice bow, so everything has to wrap up too quickly and nicely. See X-Men and Spiderman. Though Spiderman 3 had many other problems. And X-Men has done a nice job with First Class and DoFP pulling an "it was all a horrible dream" on 3.

Oh and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

I love Birdman...but I get why some dont. The cinematography alone though is amzing...some shots last like 10 minutes in multiple rooms on different floors/locations with varying amounts of actors and space with zero break. Its crazy...

And personally I think Batman Begins is better than TDK as a Batman film. Rises would have been amazing with the Joker still around.

FYI in this new universe Jared Leto is Joker. He is going full on method too and the geeks are eating it up

I look forward to Birdman. And those long shots in movies are amazing. If you haven't seen Russian Ark, watch it now. Boring movie, but amazing execution. The whole movie is one 96 minute long shot.

Agree on Rises w/Joker. Holy crap would that have been awesome.

And I love Leto's work. And kudos for going "method." That style takes some serious cajones. If you do it and fail...hooboy. Do it and succeed? You're pretty much considered a god in acting.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

Birdman was amazing on a number of levels. The long shots, a Black Swan-like heady story and the performances by everyone in the movie were off the charts.

I loved it even though I'm really not sure what the fvck I just watched.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

So... watched Birdman with the wife and after she went to bed, watched Horrible Bosses 2 with the boy.

I laughed. A lot.

Birdman: your take of "what the f* I just watched": I love those movies. Off the top of my head, Requiem would qualify. So would The Wall. For pure shock factor (given the daughter's role) Kick Ass would qualify. That first BIG scene in the apt with Kick Ass, I just stared like he did, silently mouthing "What. The. F."
And Horrible Bosses 2 worth watching, then? The first had no business being as good as it was, for what it was supposed to be, if you can understand that take....

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

It wasn't as good as the first - which was legit hilarious.

Like I said though, I laughed. Doesn't mean it's a good movie or that you'll laugh.

I'll say Birdman is well, WELL worth watching.

If you do Horrible Bosses 2, it's on you.

;)
