That's what's nice about the Criterion films: the "interesting extras."
The Criterion Collection only scratches the surface of the film lexicon and some of its collection is weird:
Beastie Boys Video Anthology. But for some this may be just what they're looking for. There's no Werner Herzog, Woody Allen, and I'm sure those of you with more film knowledge than me can see others missing. I wonder why this is? Is it because Herzog and Allen don't want to sell the rights to their movies? (Also, it's amazing how many
silent films were lost to the ages.)
I'm mostly doing this because it gives me a goal, I love movies, I like to see the historical context of these films, and the "interesting extras" are an additional education.
