I've never seen Django, so I wouldn't have that for comparison. I've also don't have Netflix, so I can't comment on the Ridiculous 6 either.

As for Sandler, most of his movies lately have been really bad, but I liked Grownups 2, mostly because of Shaq's role. :) Prior to that, it's probably been a solid 10 years since he's made a good comedy. I liked Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, probably because his bit was still new and I was in college. Wedding Singer was decent, Anger Management was unexpected, and like you said, the couple drama roles he's had have been solid.

Anger Management was indeed unexpected. You need to see Django. Heavy, long movie, but the over-the-top comedic bits break it up a bit (if you want to dial it up, just google "The Bag Scene," not really a spoiler to the movie).

And I really don't recall a movie with Sandler in it that I laughed at since Waterboy (if that was after Happy). Maybe Grownups, but it was NOT due to him.

Billy Madison was first, and then Happy Gilmore was second.

I was referencing the order of their release dates. Billy and Happy were his first two movies where he was the lead, 1994 and 95, respectively. Water Boy was 1998.

Ok. Was too lazy to look it up. Waterboy was the last stupid Sandler comedy I truly enjoyed. It was a poor man's Happy, IMO, but still worked.

If you gave Ridiculous 6 to someone who was competent, I think it could've worked, hence my 2 star rating.

Goldblum, Hirsh and Pullman need it. Smith doesn't. ;)

I also thought Sandler's Pixels was his best straight comedy in many years. It's not saying much given all the crap he's put out, but I did enjoy it.

Saw an ad for Hateful 8 and it looked awesome.


And if you don't have the LOTR extended editions on blu-ray, Amazon has it on sale today for $28 while they last. Same as the DVD sets, except for the blu-ray upgrade, and each movie has an extra disc of behind the scenes stuff included.

I saw "Spotlight" this evening. Very, very, good.One of the best. I pick it for at least 1 oscar or maybe two.

Last week saw, "In the Heart of the Sea", and I thought it was pretty good. I'd give it a 7.5. fairly accurate historically as well.

This is a very different reaction from those who saw the premiere of the Phantom Menace. Those were largely unenthusiastic, and then others were making excuses for the doubters. The fact that we're seeing positive things in the preliminary reviews is a very good thing. It's making Friday seem so very far away from Tuesday.

I know this is JJ Abrams' thing, but how much input, if any, does Lucas have into this?

I am a fan of Hardwick, but he hardly ever rips anything until well after it premieres. (in part cause he cant)

I have my tickets so I dont much care what people say about it. After I will compare maybe but that is it. I have watched 1 trailer and no TV spots I am going in pretty dark. I dont want any influence.

He submitted an outline for all three of Episodes VII-IX, and then pouted and walked away when Disney said that they wanted to go a different direction.

I doubt he pouted since they paid him $4 billion just have the rights to the films ;)

Well, he sort of did. He gave an interview where he stated that the pitched them his idea for the next three episodes in the saga and they decided to go another way. They then said that his input on the project would be appreciated nonetheless, but he said that he could tell that he wasn't going to get his way on most things, so he'd end up being a bother to them and so he declined their offer.

Synopsis: He pouted and walked away.

ETA: The one very good thing Lucas did, he took the $4 billion they paid him for Lucasfilms and donated every last penny to charity, stating that he already had enough money.

Or he knew they were just patronizing him...either way the only ones who would milk Star Wars worse than Lucas is Disney ;)
