Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

I have no idea, but I thought the Clone Wars series was widely heralded by fans that were enraged when Disney cancelled and replaced it with another? I don't follow it, but have heard enough from friends over the years to pick up bits and pieces. Which doesn't mean I don't have that wrong. :)
The Clone Wars series was decent, but I thought it dragged in places. Since it is a cartoon, there are times where it gets a bit pedantic too, but those are also the episodes that I thought dragged on a bit too much. Someone with more knowledge on the situation than me would have to say, but I thought the show was canceled before Disney bought Lucas Film.

Star Wars: Rebels is the new TV show, and that deals with a completely new set of characters that takes place after Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, basically it's about one group of rebels during the rebellion's infancy. I like it better than Clone Wars, though the same guys are in charge of it.

Sorry to break up the Star Wars talk, but I want to bring up the fact that Marty McFly traveled forward to Oct. 21, 2015.... Where do I need to go to pick up my hoverboard    :D

Hoverboards have and do exist in various forms. They just don't perform as well as the ones in the movie.

See, the Disney aspect, as weird as it sounds, gives me hope. Look at the Marvel movies, which I think turned out much much better than anyone ever though they would. And everyone was certain that Disney would ruin that too. Say what you will about Disney, but they know they need to make stuff people really want to see, and they make sure it happens. Well, now that Eisner's gone they make sure that happens. I mean, would you rather things be in Lucas's hands?

That all said, we shall see.

I'll take Disney over Lucas, but I'm not sure about the choice of JJ Abrams. There are going to be lots of unnecessarily pointless "reveals." It worked for the first of the new Star Trek's since that was all about the new crew coming together and being revealed to each other, but really dragged down Into Darkness.

And lens flare. Lots and lots of lens flare.

See the sheer amount of Marvel movies is why I never go see any of them. The few I have seen are completely formulaic like most things Disney does. (that isnt just my complaint mind you, it is a complaint by my super hardcore Marvel Movie loving friends as well) Dont get me wrong it works and makes them booku bucks but to me that gets old fast.

Look at all the projects already in development for Star Wars...they are doing the Han Solo prequels, the rumored Boba Fett story, Rogue One plus sequels to Force Awakens. (with more to come) Sooner or later it waters down the brand to the point it isnt enjoyable anymore. (in my mind) The uniqueness is gone...

And dont forget the running, there will be lots of pointless running! (the Red Letter Media thrashing of Trek in Name Only is almost as brilliant as the one ripping Phantom Menace)

Right. It becomes a commodity, and not an experience.

I fully admit though, my opinion is in the minority. If it wasnt they wouldnt still be making Jurassic Park movies and Transformer movies. (not to mention Godzilla, Fast and Furious, King Kong...etc)

Star Wars something or other, whatever.

Didn't see the trailer, don't plan to see the trailer. I don't want to have anything to do with Star Wars until I sit my skinny arse into a theater seat and drop my jaw in awe.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Or disgust. Could be either.

The trailer looks OK. And no kids, which is a helluva improvement.

Star Wars: 'Splosions has gotta be better than Star Wars: Muppet Babies or Star Trek: Lens Flare for that matter.

I just can't watch the prequel trilogies without Rifftrax anymore. Or the YouTube videos of Hayden Christensen's oaken acting.

The Man From Reno:

Crime novelist becomes entangled with a man who later goes missing, and the only clues are within the suitcase he left behind.

It was okay, at times a BIT more convoluted than it had to be, but worth a watch.

Saw The Martian over the weekend - thoroughly enjoyed it, though I did enjoy the book more. I was wondering how they would make the narrative style of the book translate onto the screen, but it was done relatively well. They filtered out some of the snark/humor that the main character conveys. Beautiful shots of "Mars", however they did it.

Looking forward to Crimson Peak this weekend - though we'll be seeing it during the day, as I'm a bit of a scardy cat. I do love me some del Toro and I am a fan of the good looking features of Tom Hiddleston.

I think Crimson Peak looks just horrible. I remember seeing the preview in the theater and just saying "NOPE!" really loud.

Shouldn't you see it at night when you are up? Seems like daytime would be the worst time for you to see it.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Inhale:

A rich prosecutor searches the organ donor black market to get new lungs for his ailing daughter. Morality movie, etc etc. It was worth a watch, out of curiosity. A bit too much on the whole "bigger operation" scheme, but *shrug*.

Matinees are typically better for R movies. The teen nursery school doesn't start up until after 7.

I try to keep "normal" hours on the days I'm not working (which is Thurs, Friday, Saturday this week), so we'll be seeing it on "days".

Agreed for your reasoning - also I work night shift, so JF may have been insinuating that I'd be better off seeing it on my "day".
