The Argento trilogy is the Three Mothers, about three witches whose powers are rooted in their three homes in different cities:

Mother of Sighs; Freiberg (Susperia, 1977), a top 10 all-time horror movie
Mother of Darkness; New York City (Inferno, 1987), uneven but the best parts are excellent
Mother of Tears; Rome (The Mother of Tears, 2007), close to unwatchable. The reddit thread on this movie is titled "Dario Argento: W T F happened?"

The source material was Thomas de Quincey's Suspiria de Profundis, which is one of those wordy 19th century philosophic semi-pornographic collections that sounds like it was dictated while stoned to the gills probably because it was. What if Aleistair Crowley was your freshman roommate?

Devil At The Crossroads:
A look at the short, mysterious life of blues legend, Robert Johnson, who was said to have made a deal with the Devil at a crossroads in rural Mississippi.

Pretty solid documentary, given what little info that is known about Johnson. Definitely give it a whirl.

I've only seen the first 2. Perhaps that is a good thing.

Kep have you watched Kieslowski's Three Colors (or Blue, White, Red) trilogy? I couldn't recommend them (from start to finish) enough.

I wish I could access my expired Netflix account - 75% of the films I watched on disc were foreign over a 3-4 year stretch. Of those I can remember I'd suggest to watch:

-The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
-The Kite Runner
-Children of Heaven

I'll try to remember a few more.

The Angel:

Tells the true story of Ashraf Marwan, a high-ranking Egyptian official who became a spy for Israel and helped achieve peace between the two countries.

Solid movie, doesn't go overboard with the action/drama, etc. As far as I can tell, stuck to the true story, since there was no reason to really make it flashier. Worth a watch.

You laugh but the Godzilla trailer I saw before Endgame was heavy handed in its obviousness: They (the generalized They of the Marxian cultural superstructure; the daemon inevitably and irresistibly spawned by the Hegelian spirit of the age; or some such sh-t) are propagandizing us for the legitimacy of using nuclear weapons.

Since it's in the thread title and the sequel is coming out soon...was I the only one who liked the Godzilla movie from a few years back? Maybe the 90s version made the bar low enough anything other than that was good, but I thought it was really well done.

Nope. The last one they got right. The one in the 90s was an unmitigated disaster. I'm looking forward to the new one.

I liked the last one except for the minor story arc with the love interest and the brat. We don't need "the adorable child in peril that humanizes the danger." It inevitably makes me actively root for the child's death and then be disappointed.

This Godzilla is rendered extremely well by the special effects.

Yeah but they're always going to include some of that, and it did a good job of minimizing it. Or at least I don't remember it that much, so it didn't actively get in the way.

If it isn’t from Japan and Godzilla isn’t a plastic toy, mookie ain’t gonna watch it :)

Also, mookie and fam saw endgame in imax. First time watching imax that mookie can recall. No previews. Just black lights and then movie....is that common? Mookie likes previews :(

Someday I'll make a web page dishonoring every one of those fungible toddler trash. The screaming daughter from the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. The little piece of garbage from the Independence Day sequel. Disaster movie brats are awful. They only exist to (1) be in danger so they can be rescued since we can't use women spraining their ankle for that anymore because every woman has to be Ripley, and/or (2) awaken father instincts in the gruff anti-hero who softens at the last moment and saves his humanity and typically gets killed in the process because He Doesn't Look a Thing Like Jesus!

Kill each one before the opening credits. Clear the table for the real story. Just say no to mawkish pathos.

It was ok...the bait and switch with Bryan Cranston was lame but the movie itself was alright. The sequel looks awesome and stupid so...its a Godzilla movie :D

Oh, I disagree. "So, you're a little Breaking Bad fanboy? Psych!" That might have been the best part of the movie. That was up there with Angie Dickinson in Dressed To Kill.

So you are all for ripping people off if they are people you dont like? Interesting...

For the record it wasnt that big of a deal but it wasnt needed. I doubt anyone saw the film ONLY because of him and I guarantee it only happened because he wanted nothing to do with the film and got back end points or something out of it. (and no I dont care what he said publicly he is full of it) The annoying part was he could have been useful in the film past when he died. Just pay him an extra million and kill him off at the end it wasnt like he was doing this for artistic reasons or anything. Or just not hire him and put in [random older actor looking to revitalize his career] and be done with it.

Personally I hope in this film they kill Milly Bobby Brown early because, well, I really dont much like her as an actress ;)

We can't have kids in disaster movies - especially if they have to be saved - because if any of these disasters actually effing happened in real life no children would ever be in peril.

If you feel ripped off because a particular actor isn't in a movie the way you thought he was that's on you. The merit of a movie derives from:

70% Writer
20% Cinematographer
09% Director
01% Other, including Actors and Key Grip

There is only one Godzilla and Raymond Burr was part of the cast.

The rest are soulless imitations.
