Motorsports 2026

So if the parent does an upgrade, the customer teams have to? Does that count against their upgrade limit? Or am I misunderstanding that statement?
Maybe I misunderstood the original post.

Here's what I meant. If an engine builder improves their engine (either HW or SW), that version must be available to all customers. That's what I was saying.

But you are correct, the customer does not have to change engines if they don't want to (like for the reason you state because of number of engines limits). But the customer must have access to any improvements the factory team gets.

Albon kicks off silly season by re-signing with Williams with a one year extension. Sainz followed up by also re-signing with Williams in a multi-year deal, guaranteeing that Williams will start 2027 with the same duo as the past two years.

And then Red Bull goes and drops this gem.

Max extends his contract with Red Bull through 2030.

So, unless there are some out clauses, the driver lineups for 2027 are:
McLaren - No Changes
Ferrari - No Changes
Williams - No Changes
Cadillac - No Changes
Mercedes - No 2027 commitments
Red Bull - Max and ???
Alpine - Gasly and ???
Racing Bulls - ??? and ???
Aston Martin - ??? and ???
Haas - ??? and ???
Audi - ??? and ???

Obviously Kimi isn't leaving Mercedes, but does Max getting locked up keep Russell there as well, or is he unhappy enough that he could jump somewhere else? He's becoming the #2, but there won't be another top team opening up.

Judging by the update after Max's signing to the F1 infographic, yes. 😂

Toto took zero minutes to dejectedly confirm he's keeping both.

Also, Audi confirms their same duo for 2027 as well.

That leaves Aston Martin, Haas, and Racing Bulls with double question marks, and Red Bull and Alpine with second seat question marks.
