MLB 2026: The dying of the light

Machado's fly out caught by Garrett Mitchell would have, per Statcast, been a home run in 19 of 30 MLB parks, including Miller Park.

But not at Petco Park.

Doubly not last night.

Kep can be happy with this one...

The latest proposal in this round of bargaining has the regular season being reduced to 154 games, along with the Divisional Series going back to Best of Seven, and top seeds choosing their opponents in the playoffs instead of relying on seeding/record.

NPB added a new stipulation for the Climax Series (Japan’s LCS) where if the League winner won by more than 10 games than their opponent in the CS has to win 5 games instead of 4. This is on top of the already existing stipulation that the higher seed starts the series with a 1-0 win lead.

The Pacific League is already using the new stipulation this year because the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks won the PL by 13 games.

🤨

Honestly, I'm starting to come around to no salary cap. But the deferred loopholes NEED to be plugged. If the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, or whoever want to piss away money faster than the Soviet Union in the Cold War, good for them. Make 'em pay an even wilder luxury tax. Make it a logarithmic penalty.

Still not sure about setting a floor. I don't want this to turn into the NHL where the Pirates take on Ohtani's contract after he "retires" as a Dodger.

The right direction, anyway.

There has to be a floor. The biggest cancer in the game is cheap owners milking the luxury tax pool and pocketing it rather than competing. If the price of a floor is a ceiling I'm more than okay with it.

I've got another idea. When an owner sells, force them to sell to the league at a set price with a modest ROI. The league then auctions the team to the new owner. The gain is distributed to all teams equally.

Teams are no longer piggy banks. Rip the capitalism right out it. Get rid of the scum who use teams as investment vehicles.

"Denies"? It wasn't going out anyways.
I don't know about that.

Firstly, I'll state right up front the right call was made by the replay officials, on all the decisions.

Each angle definitely showed something different. I really wonder whether the ball would have hit the top of the wall and bounced over. Sure, the fan touched it before the wall, but he wasn't leaning over like Jeff Meyer's infamous interference. He touched the ball above the height of the wall. Sort of scooped it in instead of preventing it from continue to fall. The ball may have had enough height to skim the top of the wall and continue. No doubt, it would have been very close.

Of course, we'll never know. I am surprised they didn't use that trajectory technology whenever they show were HRs would have landed if something didn't get in the way, like a pole or light fixture. Not for replay, but just for the fans' amusement.
