MLB 2026: The dying of the light

Quick question though Kepler: do you have a smart phone, wrap around sunglasses, and the cab of a pickup truck to film in? Yes to all three gives you speed pass on the creation of said rant-podcast.

Well, um, no. But I have problematic views on sexuality, if you fell off the tier one conveyor belt between 1980 and 2020.

Will that play?

A slow start to the season for the league this year. One game on "Opening Day" being broadcast on Netflix. Then "Opening Day" again for just 22 teams on Thursday with only a double header being broadcast by NBC. (Gone are the days of four games back-to-back by ESPN.)

Friday sees just eight games, three starting their series.

Saturday has all 30 teams playing, with three series wrapping up, and Sunday has just twelve games.

Monday has all 30 teams playing. Followed Tuesday with all but one series going. Full slate Wednesday the 1st. Just four games on April 2nd, 28 teams in action the 3rd. And a full slate Saturday the 4th.

I get they usually build in a day or two early in the year for weather delays, but who cooked up this NHL schedule bullshit?

The first abomination was moving the full opening day from Monday to the Friday before a couple of years back. By moving it up to Thursday for most teams/ those with outdoor stadiums, you can build in the off-day on Friday for possible rainouts and still have the full slate on Saturday. Taking Sunday off makes no sense, however. The following week is a pretty standard schedule other than not having a full slate on Friday. Once the season gets into swing, you shouldn't see any team with a scheduled off-day on a Fri-Sun.
