MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

Maybe the worst umpire discretion on a ground rule double I've ever seen. Could cost the Rays this game.

They didn't have a choice. They read the rule on air. As long as the ball hasn't been cleanly fielded, it's still treated as a batted ball even if it deflects off a player, so two bases is the only option.

Well, that was fun. Now onto getting decimated by Tampa Bay!

Sunday was great and wow it was electric and the walk off HR by Vazquez, the place erupted. Sitting in section 10 was very tense at times especially when Robles came in. I said to myself it's not a good move and sure enough the game was tied. I think Cora was very lucky that they won the game else he would have been rightly criticized for bringing in Robles who during the summer in a game got lit up for 2 HRs in relief. He was just awful.

But the ground rule double I had no idea as most people in my section thought the Rays took the lead until the rule was explained.

I was following the game on my phone last night, and pleasantly surprised they took the early lead but then the Rays tied it up. But luckily they won again on a walk off sac fly )

Robles pitched in the Wild Card game last week and did a good job. I was more curious last night as to why Cora took out Josh Taylor, who had a great 1-2-3 inning. Braiser didn’t get one out and gave up the tying runs. Let Taylor start the inning, see how it goes, take him out if necessary.

Buster Posey has caught for 14 postseason shutouts, the most in major league history. Yadier Molina has 8, Yogi Berra had 7. Posey has done it over 55 games, whereas Molina needed 102 and Berra needed 75.

I'm trying to decide what to make of this other than an oddity.

(which doesn't make it any less neat.)
