MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

I love 3 batter minimum. I wish it was 9 batters. You just make one circuit of the lineup.

If it were up to me there'd be no divisions and just the pennant winners meeting in the World Series, like it was from 1901 through 1968.

My preference would maybe be to limit a team to 10 or 11 pitchers. Would accomplish the same thing.

So the Mets should just fold then? They'd never get in!

You're not wrong...

Well, I mean, you are wrong:

1969
1986
1988
2006

NL teams with more "natural pennants" since 1962:

11 St. Louis
10 Los Angeles
9 Milwaukee-Atlanta
5 Cincinnati
5 Pittsburgh

(If you're wondering, the Yankees have 16 over the same 59 season period. In the 41 years immediately prior they had 26 more, for 42 natural pennants in 100 seasons.)

I prefer no DH tbh but that ship has sailed.

The one change I would love (but it will never happen) is cut the season to 150 games. That shaves 2 weeks off the regular season and since they're going to expand the playoffs the season might end before November.

I'd completely forgotten how stupid Normal People TV is. I have to watch the MLB games muted. The broadcasts are not tolerable.

I wish there was an intelligence filter on media (I mean, other than leaving it off). Just like you can opt for gay programming or conservative programming, you should be able to filter for intelligent programming.

There's stuff out there, it's just virtually impossible to find amid the dreck.

Cards bow out the same day Cardinal great Bob Gibson passes away. I never saw him pitch live other than possibly on tv, but I sure would have loved to have that memory. In some ways baseball remains more connected to each of its different eras than other North American team sports, and in other ways it could not be more different from one generation to the next. Bob Gibson and the style of pitching that was with us throughout his career could not be more different than what we watch today.

Red Sox local tv ratings down over 50% from 2019. It will be very interesting to see what they do next year. I think with NHL, NBA, and MLB they play maybe half the games they would in a normal year.

This whole round is garbage. Just fast forward to the LCS: Oakland-New York and Los Angeles-Atlanta.

I'm dreaming of an all-CA WS. Make the Dumpies even madder.

It's 2020. You know that Houston is going to win the WS as a big eff-u to MLB and everyone else. It can't end any other way.

You're probably right, but Miami-San Diego would be hilarious to destroy what's left of the ratings.

The Marlins, a franchise that has been in existence for 27 years and has two World Series titles...

... just lost their first playoff series in franchise history.

All 3 teams to advance to the LCS so far (Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston) used to play in the National League West. And one beat another member of that 6-team division (San Diego) to get there.
