Yankees and White Sox will play at the Field of Dreams next year.

Slightly disappointed they’re building an actual stadium and not just charging 20k a ticket to sit on the tiny bleachers. It’s also about 25 years too late for Burt Lancaster to reprise his role as old Moonlight Graham.

This sounds way too close to the plot of Mystery, Alaska.

Official SOX tweet for this...

I get that Rob wants to take baseball places it's never been, but this is just blah... Like AP said, it's gonna have a Mystery, Alaska vibe to it. Personally I would play on the field with no walls for the full effect...

I don’t think they allow fornicating in Iowa.

:D

Player 1: I'm sorry. I didn't even get the condom on. It was 'cause of your sister's breasts. They're perky!

Player 2: [Punches Player 1 in the face]

Team Doctor: [sighs] Well, he's out again.

This might be looking too much into it, but the rendering MLB posted seems to imply that the "movie" field isn't going to be used at all for the game. They will be building an entire temporary stadium to host the event in an adjacent cornfield. If true, that kinda kills any good vibes this event was giving off

MLB 3D Rendering of the venue

They already said they are building an 8k seat stadium. Not using the movie set.

I missed that initially I guess.

I wonder if MLB views this like the NHL's investment in a portable Ice Making Plant and rink infrastructure. They pay for it up front, but then spend years plopping down an "MLB Park" wherever they see fit and make $TEXAS off the events.

I thought that was what they said they eluded to after the Braves/Marlins game at Fort Bragg. If it was successful, they thought they could swoop in, slap together a temporary stadium, play the game, and then strip down and convert the facility into a softball/baseball field and multipurpose sports complex for the area. Kind of an extension of their "Play Ball" campaign.

I think the Williamsport stadium is the only one left from these events that’s still standing and that’s because it’s an annual game and a minor league stadium. The Fort Bragg stadium was torn down to make a rec facility, the London games were a temporary change the stadium, and Omaha already existed.

Kinsella's books are about how commerce destroys what is good in us. It's fitting that MLB will destroy the spirit of his book in using it to make bank.

This is up there in the Irony Sweepstakes with my hometown honoring Walt Whitman by naming a shopping mall after him.

You do you, America.

They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it, for it is money they have and peace they lack.

...

Sorry, I couldn't not do that.

This is adorable and I'm just going to leave it here for you bitter old men or for mookie to say something gross.

The game ended 23-2 Houston. Watching the highlights of that game, don't blame the ball for where Baltimore was leaving pitches. At least five of Houston's home runs were HOT, JUICY BURGERS!

And today the Orioles beat them. That's baseball, Suzyn.
