MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

MLB is considering a massive restructuring of the minor league system.

Minor league affiliates would drop from 160 to 120.
Draft would go from 40 rounds to 20.
Realignment of leagues for better geographic fit.

The PCL is really the only one that seems to be wildly spread out, so I'm not quite sure how much realignment there will be, but I guess that depends on who gets dropped.

I can kinda see it. To use the Southern League as an example, you have an 8 hour bus ride between the Tennessee Smokies and Biloxi Shuckers and several 5-6 hour in/out of Knoxville. Within that 8 hour window, there are quite a few MiLB teams in different leagues within 3 hours of Knoxville (even excluding the Appalachian League).

AAA isn't horrible since those teams travel on chartered flights in the same manner an MLB team would. It's costly, but flight/bus time is about the same if they were to redo the International League and PCL.

The Prince William Cannons still make it through, right?!

True. You could get a 10-12 team league in Michigan/Ohio/Indiana with current affiliated teams where it looks like max travel would be five hours.

Right now in the Midwest League max travel is eight hours.

Altuve gonna Altuve.

Stros vs Nats

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

Altuve, who else, with a 2 run dinger to walk off into the World Series in the bottom half.

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

Baseball is a funny game. The Yankees were actually statistically better in both offensive and pitching statistics, nearly across the board. The Astros were simply much more opportunistic, and took advantage of their chances.

You (still) can't predict baseball, Suzyn.

Sounds like the St. Paul Saints have more or less been included in the MLB minor league plan.

Not sure I like them as an affiliate.

You also have to take into account fairness, justice, karma, God in Heaven, and what's morally right.

Astros have been my bandwagon team the last few years as Altuve is my favorite player. The addition of Verlander didn't hurt either. But Houston's response and handling of this has been abysmal and I'll probably become a Nats fan for the next 4-7 games.

Plus Scherzer deserves a ring.

This. I'm in agreement with this.

Really all you need to know:

Taubman, a former fantasy baseball expert and investment banker, joined the Astros organization in 2013 as an analyst and was promoted to assistant general manager last September.
