Over my dead body.

If we really wanted to max out rivalries we'd have to essentially eliminate the leagues, and, once again, OMDB.

There could come a day when NY/NY, LA/LA, and Chi/Chi are each intradivisional, but on that day the AL and NL cease to be.

This is a hill I will stand side by side and defend to the death with you. And my team has played in both leagues in the modern era.

Separating the Cubs and Cardinals? Really?

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

My ideal scenario is contract the Florida teams and go with two 7 team divisions, top two in each division make the playoffs. But contraction is no longer on the table like it was 15 years ago, nor would be reducing the number of playoff teams now that they added a second wild card.

I mean my ideal scenario is to go back to 1973, even though this eliminates my Mariners.

You're right, that's not going to fly. There are three pairings that have to stay in division no matter what:

1. LA/SF
2. Chi/StL
3. NY/Bos

Likewise those 6 teams must stay in their historical leagues no matter what.

In all honesty you could probably just contract everybody else and just play with those 6. I don't think anybody is going to miss Cleveland or Cincinnati, let alone any post-1901 latecomer.

Also, based on the current rumors, I would think LV and Montreal are more relocation areas than expansion cities.

Oakland to Vegas
Tampa to Montreal

Expansion to Raleigh/Carolina
Expansion to Nashville

AL:
East - BAL, BOS, MTL, NYY
South - TEX, HOU, KC, NSH
North - DET, TOR, CHW, CLE
West - LAA, LV, SEA, MIN

NL:
East - PIT, PHI, NYM, WSH
South - ATL, CAR, MIA, CIN
North - CHC, MIL, STL, CO
West - LAD, SD, SF, AZ

Don’t like the Twins out west, but they get squeezed.
For rivalry purposes I would rather flip the Reds and Rockies.

Ish. Absolutely not.

Also, you can't call it the north when the northernmost team is in the west. SOrry, two most northern teams.

Whew. My Brewers, and the theft of the Pilots, still make the cut.

Boy you really hate baseball in Washington DC, don't you? :D

Actually I like it. It's the only relocation since KC to Oakland I accept, although I miss Montreal.

If you reduced baseball to teams whose existence I acknowledge as metaphysically valuable you'd have:

NL

Brooklyn Dodgers
Chicago Cubs
New York Giants
St. Louis Cardinals

AL

Detroit Tigers
New York Yankees
Philadelphia Athletics
Washington Senators

8 teams would make for some pretty awesome lineups and rotations.

If you insist on adding any more clubs then we can expand with

Pittsburgh Pirates
Cincinnati Reds

Boston Red Sox
Baltimore Orioles (another move I accept)

TBH, those 6 on 6 would make for a perfect MLB from my POV.

This year's standings (taking the Twins for the real Senators):

Code:
NL

106-56 Brooklyn
91-71 St. Louis
84-78 Chicago
77-85 New York
75-87 Cincinnati
69-93 Pittsburgh

AL

103-59 New York
101-62 Washington
97-65 Philadelphia
84-78 Boston
54-108 Baltimore
47-114 Detroit
Average wins per team 82. Almost a perfect representative sample.

And Minnesota is somehow playing in the west, despite being in the central time zone and all of the other three teams being in the pacific. They easily have the most travel every single year.

Remember when the Falcons were in the NFC West?

Maybe jocks are just bad at geography.

Were the Cardinals still in the NFC East when they moved to Arizona?

Move closer to where people live. :)

If we wanted to save jet fuel we'd have one league on the left coast, one on the right, contract everybody in between, and play the World Series under the Gateway Arch.

Could solve global warming...

Twins move to Portland or Vancouver.

There, now everyone is in the same timezone and the Yankees no longer have a bye in the playoffs.
