Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....
Also, based on the current rumors, I would think LV and Montreal are more relocation areas than expansion cities.
Oakland to Vegas
Tampa to Montreal
Expansion to Raleigh/Carolina
Expansion to Nashville
I'll buy your moves. I can't see
both those expansion sites.
Here are the current
holes:
1. New York, could support a third team (might even support four) but that gains nothing for MLB and cuts the pie which neither incumbent will permit.
18. Orlando, with Tampa leaving this is a gaping hole but FL baseball seems to have very bad ROI so let's nix it.
20. Sacramento, with Oakland leaving this becomes even more attractive. A possibility.
22. Portland, as a lover of Portland: for hockey, yes, but they have better things to do in those few summer months.
23. Charlotte, a very strong contender and likely a lock.
25. Raleigh, knocked out by Charlotte.
27. Nashville, I don't see what it adds with Charlotte in and the future is West.
28. Indianapolis, see Nashville.
30. Salt Lake City, another strong possibility and a great rival to Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Colorado.
31. San Antonio, another great choice and Texas can certainly support 3 teams.
I'd personally go with Charlotte and San Antonio, but it will come down to which cities will bend over for MLB the most abjectly.
