MLB 2018.2: Postseason, Free Agency, and Awards

Re: MLB 2018.2: Postseason, Free Agency, and Awards

Bobby Bonilla's contract will still be paying out for 4 years after Harper's is over, so there's that :p

Wonder what Mike Trout is worth. As far as I'm concerned he's head and shoulders above Harper. Glad the Giants didn't shell out that kind of money for Harper.

Allegedly it's "heavily" front-loaded, to presumably make it a little less embarrassing at the end when they're paying the Mariners to take him off their hands as a DH.

It isn't drastic. $10M salary, $20M signing bonus this season, broken up into 2 $10M segments. $26M for 9 years, then $22M for last 3 years, iirc.

I can't believe he took that small of an AAV. I figured he'd be $10M/year more.

I think he spread a 10-year contract over 13 years to drive down the AAV and give the team more money to buy more pieces so he can be more successful. There's no point bankrupting your team and winding up with 200 IBB and 85 RBI every year.

What are you people talking about? My only guess, and it's a reach, is he was in the miracle mile rub and tug with We Are All Patriots Now.

tmz has the video. he tried to grab his cell off his wife and her chair broke.

IMO, he overreacted. Was it abuse? I don't think so. Should he be punished for his actions? Yes. Sounds contradictory, I liken it to a one time bar fight or similar. Unless something else pops up, it was a one time thing.

In the hat tip department, Harper will abandon his usual #34, and move to #3 with the Phillies. He stated that he felt Doc Halladay should be the last Phillies player to wear #34.

I'm for this because 34 is a pitcher number and 3 is a hitter number.

Also, no numbers over 49*,** except Sid Fernandez.

Now excuse me while I shout at that cloud.

* Another reason why a club's retired numbers should be reinstated after 50 years.

** For hockey, read 39 except Jaromir Jagr.
