MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

'Make Baseball Fun Again', they said, just 'not too much fun.'

Rob Manfred is trying to Roger Goodell the MLB...

If they wanna put fun into baseball let them fight. Instead of posturing all the time and hoping they get held back when the benches clear, fine or suspend players that leave the benches. Let these bit-ches go at it. Bet there would be 0 fights though.

Um, that’s your idea of fun? Then watch boxing. :p

mookie is reading a book on the early 70s A's.

so far two funny quips.
-rollie fingers retired rather than adhere to the clean shaven policy on the Reds. he was quoted as "she (marge) has more facial hair than I do"
-in the 72 WS manager dick Williams actually went and took the field in the first base coaches box for an inning to berate the ump. when he returned at the end of the inning bowie Kuhn called the dugout and told him if he tried it again he would be fined, heavily.

Blue Jays with the worst defensive performance I've ever seen (5 unearned runs off of errors) and go down 9-0 to the A's...and for the 9th they have DH Kendrys Morales pitch

Speaking of the Jays, Guerrero Jr. went 4-4 with a walk-off homer in the first game of a DH today. That's 8 HR and a .423 avg on the year with an OBP of .423 and an OPS of 1.173.

His career stats:
Rookie ball - .271 BA
Low A - .316
High A - .333
Double A - .423

That puts him on a trajectory to be a .499 hitter in MLB.

I got to see him a play a few times when he was playing for the Lugnuts. Everyone knows the story of how Ted Williams asked the very elite hitters if they could smell the burnt wood of the bat when they fouled one off. On a variation of that, you can tell how much better Vlad is just based on the sound his bat makes. Without a doubt the loudest I've heard in a minor league stadium, and that includes MLBers down on rehab assignments.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

It is fun to watch a game where someone is waaaaayyyyyyy better than everyone else. Watched those kinds of games as a kid when Strawberry played for the Saints, and again in college summers when Granderson played for the Moondogs.

Madison Bumgarner to make first injury rehabilitation start next Saturday at Triple-A Sacramento against Albuquerque.

Against the Isotopes? Is taupe one of their team colors? :D Mad Bum should know it's an exhibition and not try to strike out 5 guys in the first inning.

This was what it was like to watch Gooden pitch in the majors in 1985.

Why do I know that name?

Wait, was he that SS that was a phenom for a number of years? Usually one of the first to be drafted in fantasy baseball leagues, right? (Back when I was in a league.)

ETA: Holy ****. He's making $22 million this year.

ETA2: HOLY ****! The red sox are doing this a year after DFAing Sandoval who was making $17.6 million at the time. Oof. Nice contracts by that GM...

That would be Ben Cherington, now the Toronto Blue Jays vice-president of baseball operations.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

@TonyMassarotti: With the decision on Hanley, the Red Sox now have roughly 34 million this year committed to Ramirez and Sandoval.

They're paying Rusney Castillo over $11mil a year to play in Pawtucket. Hell, they pay Planet Manny $2mil a year until 2028.
