Really impressed by the umpires tonight. With all the crazy sh*t that went on, they seem to be getting everything correct/corrected without issue.

More umps like this crew, and less arrogant Joe West umpires please!

Though it would have been nice if he had gotten the (non) call right in the first place. That was not a tough judgment call. It was a brain fart.

Actually, yea, it was.... You had a batter in a place where he never is (out over the plate)... 99/100 other times when you have a batter out in that position, you have Interference... It's pretty straightforward... This situation was unique in that you didn't have the batter making any movement that hindered/impeded the catcher's ability to make a play there at the moment of the throw... It took myself and several umpire friends a few moments to decipher what had happened... Not as easy as everyone is making it out to be...

This is karma! :)

You're right, and I was wrong to say it was not a tough judgment call. But if he had determined it was interference, the runner would have been sent back to third. So either (1) there was no interference in which case he incorrectly stopped play or (2) there was interference and he should have sent the runner back to third. He clearly stopped play and sure looked to me like he pointed to third base, as if to gesture the runner back.

So sure whether there was interference or not was a tough decision, but his actions weren't consistent with either possibility.

Edit:
Scott acknowledged making a mistake with his initial ruling.

"That was my mistake. I was mixing up two rules, and I called time, but then it started clicking. I went wait a minute, wait a minute, there's no intent on the hitter. He's in the box, the bat's in the box," Scott said. "So to make sure I'm on the right page, I got everybody together, and that's what we had. If there's no intent, if he's not out of the box, that throw's live."

That's from the ESPN writeup. BTW, I think the right result happened. There was no interference and even if the ump had done things right, there was no way they would have gotten the runner at home. But if the ump hadn't screwed up the controversy would have been just on the judgment call. I think the protest would have been a mess. The Jays would have had a strong argument; time was clearly called before the runner crossed home.

BTW, he gets marked down for a terrible metaphor "To make sure I'm on the right page"?;)

The world is that much better a place. Both TX teams dead.

Nice try.

Hey, chin up...the last Republican governor of Texas to screw up a baseball team did all right for himself...

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Considering how poor the starting pitching has been for the AL teams, I expect every game to be 9-7.

Addison Russell out for NLCS, per Joe Maddon.

Scott is a crew chief with 30 years of MLB experience. Proves that even the best can make a mistake.

Fortunately, Elvis Stonehands and Joey Batts may have prevented a riot in Toronto that would have made Vancouver look like a tea social. Instead, we get this. :D

I hope Kepler does not fall into the Potomac tonight.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

MLB's only thinking right now: Please no KC.

There's the possibility to have Canada vs the largest market (Mets, but I'm sure Yankees fans will watch to hope they lose) or the third largest market with 107 years of storyline.

Honestly, Yankees fans should be hoping the Mets win it. Why? You think Cashman and Co. would appreciate the little brother bringing it back to NY? Doubtful.

I'm not sure I can wrap my head around the fact that the Cubbies or Mets can win a world series this year. Apocolypse is coming, apparently. 😉

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Mets and Cubs haven't played each other since the beginning of July. So I don't think the regular season matchups matter much.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Gotta admit I love it that a team takes it up the tailpipe because of an "unintended consequence " of a shift.

Great to see LA lose. Now they can spend time planning their division champs banner raising next year.
