Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

MLB At-Bat app updated for the new season today.

First 2 spring games today also. Both are against college teams.

MLB.TV has some nice new rules this season.

FOX blackout will only affect the game on in your area instead of all 3 games they have the rights to in the time slot.

All World Series games and the All-Star game will be available.

It's nice to see MLB.tv make these changes to draw fans into the service. As a fan of two out of market teams, it's been well worth the money, and now moreso with the lifting of the FOX Saturday game blackout.

Even more surprising was the "leak" that if the Comcast-Houston /Houston Astros issue isn't solved, MLB.tv has a nuclear option it would use: lifting the local blackout on MLB.tv in the Houston area. That is a last resort though.

These changes only happened as part of signing a new 8 yr deal with FOX as I understand it.

I just read the article, and yeah it seems that FOX pushed for the changes since they're streaming their events live on their FOX Sports GO app (thus MLB.tv can stream their feeds).

Glad to see FOX listen to the fans, and realize that any way they can hook viewers to their programming is a good thing.

Is Josh Donaldson for real or a one-year wonder?

Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

I tend to think this might be real. His career minor league numbers don't indicate as much, but the last couple years in the minors aren't bad at all. OPS in AA is .795, .840 in AAA. Career .810 in the majors, and that might be about right.

Keep in mind that he's 28 now, so I wouldn't expect much improvement.

Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

I guess maybe the question I should've asked is - I got far more fantasy production than expected, at a cheap price, out of both Donaldson and Matt Carpenter last year. I'm most likely keeping one or the other, but not both, in addition to Starling Marte, Shelby Miller, Yadier Molina and Greg Holland, all of whom I also have at bargain-basement prices (Molina and Holland because I got them for those prices in 2012). Is either one markedly more likely to sustain their 2013 production level into 2014? It seems like sort of a toss-up in Carpenter's favor given their different positions.

(Marte gets preference over either, despite the fact that his production was somewhat less, because he's much younger than either and because a technicality of our keeper rules makes it impossible for me to keep Miller, Carpenter and Donaldson even if that's what I wanted to do.)

(Other options I could keep instead of Carpenter or Donaldson are Billy Hamilton or Wil Myers, but at higher prices, though both are still tempting.)

Subscribed to BOTH mlb threads

The other MLB thread died today. There can be only one thread.

Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

Yankees have 1 hit vs Houston so far tonight, and its by Beltran. He was my beat the streak pick for today. :D

I had Cuddyer yesterday (2-4).

Top of the 7th at Miller Park. Whoa.

Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

yeah, Aaron Harang has a no-hitter (I waited until after Garza's was gone to post this :p)

I usually go to the weekday games. I didn't go to this one, and I commented to my mom that I couldn't remember why I didn't get tickets. Then I said.. "just watch, they'll probably throw a no-hitter". doh!

Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

And then Harang loses his in the 7th as well.
