Are we just going to make this the WBC thread?

The Asian pools are finished already with their first rounds. Taiwan and the Netherlands won coming from B, Japan and Cuba coming out of A. Those teams will now face off in the 2nd round in Tokyo starting tomorrow. Pool C and D will also start tomorrow for first round action.

Hosmer will replace Teixeira at first base for the US, who injured his wrist yesterday.

Do people watch the WBC with interest, other than its baseball of some kind after several months of nothing?

Hard for me to get excited about a preseason tournament.

I don't really care... Just seems to me that most players don't care for it... Also don't like the pitching restrictions... I know why they are in place... I just think that it shows that it's a secondary thing....

I like it because we get to see Cuba, and some teams like the Dominican Republic and Venezuela become all-star teams. Plus I'm a sucker for basically any international tournament. Unfortunately, like with the IIHF World's, the US players half-*** it and so the US doesn't have the team that they could.

It does suck how it has been Little League-ized with the pitch counts and such due to spring training, but I like it. I was watching MLBN earlier and they had the Dominican Republic against the Yankees. The announcers had all different kinds of scenarios. One was play it in November, another was only make it 8 teams and extend the all-star break to an entire week. I like Joe Giardi's idea the best though. He said play the preliminary rounds in March like they do now, but then play the finals during the all-star break.

Regardless, it's baseball, and it's a step up from spring training.

Saw on the Twittah that Mariano Rivera will be announcing his retirement. I'm bummed. One of the only Yankees I really enjoyed watching.

Can't say I didn't expect it. Shoot, he said if he had healed up to pitch in the playoffs, he would have retired end of last year.

Definitely going to have to make it to a few games this year. Hopefully I can make it to the last game, whether in September or November.

Italy beats Mexico 6-5. Was 5-4 Mexico in the top of the 9th with Romo (SF) closing, but a couple hits and then an error in left field allowed to runs to score. Venezeula and Dominican Republic is on now, so basically an All-star game. Also if you would like a hockey flashback, Gary Thorne is announcing.

Edit: Well now it's in a rain delay. 3-0 Dominican Republic in the bottom of the 1st. Bases loaded, 1 out.

...aaaaaand after an hour long rain delay, tack on another fifteen minutes because they lost the baseballs.

That's hilarious. After a while, he obviously can't figure out which one of them it was. He's thinking, "****, they all look alike."

That's some funny stuff.

Loved how the MLB broadcaster said "Don't mess with the hockey players."
