MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

I've wanted them to cut some games down and add some double headers to end the season around Labor Day for years.

Nah, let's have the playoff extend into November instead.

Cutting dates is cutting gate. Never happen.

We will eventually wind up with 16 teams in the playoffs like the NHL.

Rooting for (in order): Anybody who plays St. Louis; A's, O's, Nats, Tigers, Giants.

The only team I would lose sleep over if they won is St. Louis. I'd rather see the Yankees win. Not that I am bitter or anything. Not at all. :)

Here's the new MLB

AL
East: BOS, NYY, BAL, TOR
Central: DET, CLE, CWS, MIN
South: HOU, KC, TB, TEX
West: LAA, LV, OAK, SEA

NL:
East: NYM, PHI, PIT, WAS
Central: ARI, CHC, COL, MIL <-- this needs work
South: ATL, CIN, MIA, STL
West: LAD, SFG, SD, POR

22 in your division (too much? That's what they did in the 154 game / 8 team years)
6 against the other divisions in your league
6 against another division in the other league
OR
16 in your own division
6 against the other divisions in your league
6 against another division in the other league
6 against the teams in the same position as you in each division of the other league.

I get to see teams in the other league at the minimum of once every 4 years instead of the current 6.
I would mandate that you play 2 series (H & A) against every team in your division to open and close the season.
The interleague season is split into June and August with the intraleague season filling in the other times (along with the extra intradivisional series).

Playoffs - seed divisional winners 1 - 4. 1 plays 4, 2 plays 3. Home field for WS is determined by which league won the more interleague games.

Never happen.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Oakland beats the Rangers to win the AL West. Texas is a wildcard.

Hamilton does not homer...

Give this man the Commissionership.

I vote for Option 1.

As a Met fan, I would be so sad to lose the rivalry with the Braves. /sarcasm

I think the one game playoff for the Wild Card is silly. But I am certainly not complaining!

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

In the old days, pitchers threw batting practice in between starts.

Dice-K is throwing BP to the Yankees.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Miguel Cabrera leaves the game in the 4th. 0-2 on the night, but is probably assured the first Triple Crown since 1967.

Anyone else a little sick to their stomach that Cabrera, of all people, is going to win this? (Detroit fans need not apply.)

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

I'm with you. He'll probably celebrate with 2 bottles of scotch and a drive around the city.

I'm looking over the list of triple crown winners and he absolutely doesn't belong:
Yastrzemski
Robinson
Mantle
Williams
Medwick
Gehrig
Klein
Foxx
Hornsby
Cobb
Lajoie

Not I. I think it is a great accomplishment and something I never thought we'd see. It's just so much harder with so many more pitchers and movement of pitchers in this reliever era

The biggest racist in MLB history?

Oh and RBI wasn't an official MLB stat until 1920. ESPN announcers were not counting anyone before that. Depends on if you care or not.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Is Medwick in the HOF?

EDIT - nevermind, he is. couldn't remember.

Well, right. But I'm taking in terms of greatness.
He is only 29 years old. (Somehow I guess that right on the button) I'm not sure where he is stats wise in his career but I'm sure its on pace for greatness.

There is no way in hell Cabrera's name will be mentioned in the same breath as Williams, Gehrig, or Mantle. He might be a HOFer, but not among the all-time greats. (As odd as that last sentence is.)

Maybe the same breath as Yaz... But I agree.
