MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Opening Day is the glorious day when most teams play their first game, and you can sit on your couch all day and watch baseball from noon until midnight. Not some stupid overseas games or a one-game series before everyone else plays. The Marlins would be partially forgiven if they played the same team they play on real Opening Day, but St. Louis plays there on Wednesday, then comes to Milwaukee for Opening Day here on Friday, and the Marlins face the Reds on Thursday.
Hm. Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me. Also, there's like 8 games Thursday and then everyone finally plays Friday?

The two-day thing is a little weird, but I can get used to it. I'm willing to acknowledge Thursday, April 5 as Opening Day for the general populace. My personal Opening Day is Friday, because my team doesn't play until then.

Regardless, it seems stupid to play regular season games, and then go BACK to spring training games.

Of course it does! But this is the reign of King Bud I, where all sorts of strange things happen.

Back in the day, baseball opened up in Cincinnati for the NL and Washington in the AL. Then the next day everybody else started. Of course, this was in mid April and when you played 2 on Sundays. And the Mets played 162 games on local free TV and the Yankees something like 150. The Dodgers -- 18 (all against the Giants).

Opening Day matchup at Tropicana Field for those going during FF: Shields vs Sabathia

I am very excited to see the Big Man pitch!!! :)

MLB is now trying to sell full season Minor League Baseball TV packages!

Even if I lived in a Minor League city I wouldn't consider that. Their selling point was that existing MLB.TV members get 50% off the season price.

how much is it? I could see buying it if I wanted to watch some hot prospects for my team or something but I doubt I'd spend much on it.

$39.99 /yr or $9.99 /mo. So with discount its about $20.

It's all AAA Games, and "select" games from other classifications. Also select playoff games, the AAA, Southern and Texas League All-Star Games.

and then they added the flamingoes. :D

Full disclosure: I kind of love the Marlins home run thingy. It's so kitschy and awful that I think it's AWESOME and I need to see it in person. It's like they were finished.... but then they added one more thing. And then one more thing. And then one more thing. And then, ooh, what about FIREWORKS? I fully expect there to be 3-4 more things added to it by the time they open next week. Jumping dolphins! Turtles! Manatees! sparkly seashells!

Sort of like the HHH Metrodome and the Twins. Back when every other stadium that was built was nauseatingly similar to all of the others, the Twins played in a stunningly unique ballpark. Every bit as much as any of the ball parks from baseball's so-called "golden era." The "baggy" the 1000s of folded up football configuration seats, the noise when ball parks were as a rule much quieter, it was all interesting. Not my cup of tea, but no one could ever say it was anything like Riverfront, or Three Rivers, or Busch, or the Vet. Or any of the other handful of domes baseball has made the mistake of playing in.

I think they should continue to add one more thing for each homerun. Kind of like the set of PTI.

It does, though I wonder whether that used to happen back in the old days when scheduling was, shall we say, looser, and teams would barnstorm north through every small city (and bar, and whorehouse) on their way to the opener.
