The other thread closed and apparently the other MLB thread I saw was only for HOF talk....Someone else can think of a witty title if they want.

Im happy to see that the White Sox got Konerko back. Should have the potential for a good lineup with Dunn, Konerko, Quinten and Rios if most of them can meet expectations. I think they still have Beckham too who hopefully will finally put together a solid season. And Juan Pierre who was near the top in the league in stolen bases. The pieces are there. Bullpen will need some work. I think they will still have at least 4 of their starters back (Burhele, Danks, Floyd and Jackson) not sure about Garcia.

An interesting thing to note is that both Dunn and Pierzynski (who I know everyone hates) both backloaded their contracts to make room to keep Konerko. I think thats fairly classy as Konerko should still have some solid years left. He did quite well last season and is a good leader on and off the field. Id like to see him retire as a White Sox (Sock?). Hopefully it doesnt turn out to hurt them finacially in a few years though...

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

So the Twins traded JJ Hardy and Brendan Harris to the Orioles for two minor league pitchers. That should be it for out offseason moves.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

The Red Sox have been quite productive this offseason, getting both Gonzalez and Crawford. I am pumped for the season, the potential is through the rough. The bullpen scares me a bit, but if our rotation stays healthy we shouldn't need to worry about that too much.

You probably hadn't heard of the guys they got when they traded AJ Pierzynski either. Getting prospects for eminently replaceable players isn't really the worst thing in the world.

"Who the hell are these bums!?! Nathan and Liriano, probably will never see them in the majors, and who's to say this Mauer kid even has the game to make it at this level. Shoulda' kept Pierzynski..."

Boof Bonser, Francisco Liriano, and Joe Nathan. Two of them turned out. :)

Twins also gave the Orioles $500,000 in cash. They got back Brett Jacobson and Jim Hoey. Here's hoping Hoey is the next Cy Young! :D

Don't forget, they got rid of Brendan Harris, which is a very good thing.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

I'm not saying I don't like the trade...I just hope we do more than unload a couple terrible infielders.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Gary Sheffield is <a href="http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20101207&content_id=16273338&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb">still available</a>, in case you were wondering and especially if you are the Rays.

"If it doesn't happen this year, I'm going to go ahead and call it quits," he said.

p.s. if you are the Detroit Tigers, Gary Sheffield is no longer available.

p.p.s does his new career "counseling players on financial planning and contract negotiation" including throwing your teammates under the bus if they make more than you? always a good strategy.

p.p.p.s the financial planning part almost makes him seem like a useful human being, though. ;)

I said almost! Dykstra is a whole different kind of crazy.

Seriously, when you think of how many players have wasted their savings or lost huge amounts making bad business decisions or trusting the wrong people, if he's good at it, more power to him. I did not mean to outwardly compliment Gary Sheffield, of course. :)
