With this being one of the other 2?:

This will never not be funny.

Yep

But I'm wondering why the official scorer did not charge somebody with an error on the play to keep the no hitter.

Because there wasn't an error. You can't charge an error to the umpire. A perfect game involves no one reaching first base, regardless. Umpires are part of the game. It also takes a perfect game from the umps to achieve a perfect game. Unfortunately for Gallaraga, this didn't happen. What if the ball hit the leg of the umpire and skidded away from the fielder preventing a fielder from attempting to preserve the PG? Would people be clamoring then for the commissioner to tell the umps not to stand on the field?

I forget which article I read it on (freep, mlive, or one of them) where they asked the scorekeeper about it, because he has 24 hours upon the completion of the game to submit the finalized scorecard.

He said that he "thought about giving an E-1 or E-3 to keep it a no-hitter, but Cabrera had a textbook grab and throw to first base, no errors to give him; and Galarraga was textbook in how he caught the throw and was positioned, no way to give an error for that. Both players did what they were taught to perfectly. So it was scored as a base hit."

Here's something else to consider with instant replay: How do you deal with an overturned call?

Example: Original call is a foul ball... There is no way to fix this... The play dies as soon as the ball is called foul... Runners stop advancing... You would simply be guessing at where they would have ended up if the correct ruling was made... You also remove the possibility of the defense making a play on the batter-runner or other runners... There is no good way to make the call "right"...

Example 2: Runners 1st and 2nd, 1 out... Batter hits a sinking line drive to right field... You have a trap situation on the catch by the right fielder... Original call is no catch, so runners advance... Runner from 2nd scores, and runner on 1st ends up on 3rd with the Batter-runner on 1st... Replays show that there infact was a legit catch by the right fielder...

Where do you place the runners in the overturned situation? The runner on 2nd could have tried to tag up and advance to 3rd... The Defense has a good chance at getting a 2nd out if the runner goes... You can't just give him 3rd for free, but at the same time, you can't deny him the chance to legally advance... Again, no good way to make the play right...

This is a very slippery slope when talking about replay in baseball in regards to live ball plays... Most plays have several cause/effect scenarios based on different rulings, which in turn, give you a vastly different result... It's near impossible to give a ruling that doesn't screw over the offense or defense...

Football survives instant replay with certain situations being non-reviewable and others being spot placements from when the whistle is blown.

It's clearly not perfect, but it's a helluva lot better than "Instant replay isn't traditional enough for us."

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

There are only a few teams that I have no sympathy for, no matter how horrific the injury, attrocious the call or huge the body count. The Yankees are one of them. (for what its worth, the Red Wings and Michigan are the other 2)
Call the whaaambulance!

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Does saying something equally as petty every time someone says they hate the Yankees somehow make them like the team or its fans more?

Guess what? We don't care what the effect is, as long as you fans of lesser teams keep pouring on the hate.

You aren't very good at internet tough guy or whatever it is you are going for.

Who said I'm trying to be a tough guy? I'm just telling you how it is. Obviously, you don't like how it is. Seems to me you're the one trying to act all big and bad.

Nope I asked a question, and you tried to answer as if I was going to care what your opinion was.

Then you pretended it was some family thing as if that somehow was going to validate what you had to say.

I'm not even the one who said I hate the Yankees.

Way to jump in for no apparent reason.

The O-Faces will fire Dave Trembley before tomorrow's game and replace him with Juan Samuel.
