Misc. Published Media Women's Hockey News

Re: Misc. Published Media Women's Hockey News

so the first battle between the two leagues ends in a resounding victory for the upstart NWHL

It will be interesting to see if The Union of Socialistic Social Canada can keep all of their prisoners, I mean players, or if they will defect to the US.

it's nice for the Canadians that Chiu remains, they have a couple of year to pass the hat and give her a few bucks, and then they can claim "see, we were going to pay the Americans, they just weren't patient and they all left"

A disturbing reality per the advancement, progress and growth of the sport, IMO. With regards to it's potential unfavorable impact on those positive aspects.

Going to copy your link over into the "Concussions" thread.

Good article and very interesting video if you noticed it...it was below the article and they were separated by a bunch of ads...some may have missed it.

Re: Misc. Published Media Women's Hockey News

Do people trust the participation numbers that USA Hockey publish? I tend to believe them, but I was told they exaggerate them. Does anyone have knowledge that their numbers are fudged?

According to USA Hockey the number of female hockey players jumped 4.56% in 2015-16 over 2014-15. That is the biggest jump since 2010-11.
Participation in the last 10 years has jumped 35% from 54162 to 73076 players.

If anybody wants to revisit the piece Nicole Haase wrote in January of this year on growth and parity in women's college hockey, it is here:
http://victorypress.org/2016/01/15/...ty-and-catchphrases-in-womens-college-hockey/

Thesis of some college coaches is while parity hasn't really struck the top 3 where Minnesota, Wisconsin, and BC live, it is apparent in the next group, say from teams 4-20.

I suppose it's possible they fudge them but for what purpose? Don't see a benefit in them fudging numbers.
