Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

It was a good time to win our heated underground parking lottery at work, starting today. :)

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Yeah! **** MNDOT for obeying the laws of physics!!!!!

You mean like how it snowed when it's scientifically too cold to snow?

If they put people from MNDOT in dunk tanks at the State Fair, there'd be a line of people around the block waiting to throw a couple baseballs.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

I really think that you have to be legally retarded to work for MnDOT. Not just for the plows, but how they designed the roads.

Yes....you are correct. For the above they should have been held criminally negligent.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Nobody likes you now. You know that, right?

hey, there's drawbacks! The inside of my car was too warm while I was at the gym, and I got frost on the inside, so I had to wait while it defrosted. :D

If my suffering helps, it was really ****ing cold when I cleared the driveway and sidewalks last night. I had to go inside twice to warm up.

-9, windy and snowing, doesn't get any better than that. Unless of course you have to plow 600 ft of driveway in a 57 ford tractor. Started right up but it took 2 or 3 minutes before I could take my foot off the clutch, gear oil might as well be a solid at that temp

Some 10 years ago, MnDOT was on the record as saying that the engineers who originally designed the freeway system in the Twin Cities didn't account for any population growth in their designs. Drawn and quartered, that's what should have happened to them and anyone who didn't bother to ask the question along the way.

All of those mistakes were in the past...and they are fixing them, but I'm a little worried that they aren't learning their lesson on road design. (I am one that won't get angry easily at MNDOT due to snow/ice removal, but I will hold them responsible for stupid engineering) They just spent millions of dollars reworking the 694/10/Snelling interchange area in Arden Hills, which is supposed to help relieve some of the congestion on 694. BUT after they are now done, they have only made the road 2 lanes between 35W and 35E! It is still a parking lot approaching the 35's when it cuts down to 2 lanes! Yeah, they can't have it 2 lanes the entire way yet, because the overpasses around Rice street are too narrow for 3 lanes, but I believe that section is the next one to be worked on. Why not make the new bridges in the new interchange 3 lanes instead of 2? So when the next stage is done in the area around Rice street, they can actually make the road 3 lanes between 35E and 35W? I could see making the bridges wide enough for 3 lanes, but only having 2 lanes until the entire project is done, since as it is now, it will still have to go down to 2 lanes at some point, but that is not what they have done.

It snowed here. No big deal.

(Just so you don't think Easterners flip out about it all the time.)

The interchange at 35W and Crosstown was just remade, completely torn down and redesigned. For getting into Minneapolis they added lanes, and it all works much better if not perfect. For leaving Minneapolis, trying to head out towards the airport, they list two lanes as 62 East (Crosstown, for those of you who don't know it) and then all of a sudden one lane drops off to become the Portland Ave exit. Meanwhile, about half of the traffic on 62 eastbound drops off at Hwy 77 South. Why wouldn't they make 62 East three lanes between 35W and 77 and then have that third lane drop off at 77? It would solve so much and allow for population growth, and yet that's not what they did. It's completely infuriating when I'm driving it during rush hour, on those days where I can't make use of the buses instead.

I've actually wondered the same thing at that intersection. I've been caught up by the same issue heading to the airport...

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

it is supposed to get far colder here than any recorded low temperature ever. They were warning on the news about water mains freezing.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...
