Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

So, 45 degrees this afternoon. -6 forecast for tomorrow at noon. Continuous drop in temp. And it will continue to drop until midnight tomorrow at -20. Oh, don't worry, it warms up to -12 around 6am Monday morning.

Ya know I may miss MN a lot...but not THAT much. My lord the temps this year are crazy!!

They are indeed. These quick swings...I don't remember seeing as many in the past.

Certainly not this early...I mean end of January/early Feb you could see the week of negative temps followed by a 20-30 degree swing but never something like December has been.

I will say Seattle is not working out how I thought it would so far, but I would be downright miserable in MN right now between the snow and the cold. It is like the state wanted to make all the lame stereotypes true!

Unless you work outside...or live in a tent...the temperature doesn't really matter.

Or play outside, which many of us in Minnesota do. i.e. alpine or nordic ski, pond hockey, snowshoe, ice fish, etc., etc. For that matter just take your dog for a walk. Then there are all the runners.

I'm pretty sure it matters as far as wear and tear on vehicles, gas mileage and how much it costs to heat your home

And I don't like getting into a vehicle that is frigid cold.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

You can with remote start.

Still same situation. If I park outside, it's because I'm at some sort of retail store/restaurant, and I'm not leaving my soft-top Jeep running in a parking lot in that situation. ;)

There's no security chip in your key? Remote starts are permitted because a vehicle must be in Park and the ignition be in the Off position. That is often accompanied by a vehicle that has a security chip in its key. Without that code, the engine turns off when the ignition is turned from the Off position.

No security chip that I know of.

Either way, I don't park outside enough to make a remote starter investment.

Left a bottle of water in my car in my garage overnight. Frozen solid. Figured there would be ice chunks but not expecting solid ice. It was bad since I got thirsty half way to work today and realized it then when the ice came crashing down and slammed the bottle into one of my teeth.

You don't need a security chip in your key. The second you press the brake (which any potential thief will do when putting it in gear) it will turn off if the key is not in the "on" position...

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Remote car starter is the best investment, except in this weather.Anything below 0 degrees F, it does not want to cooperate on the first try. After the 3rd, or 4th, or 5th time, then I go outside. I go outside to start my car and then let the remote take over once the car is started and go back inside.

Like MNS said: if you hit the break without the key in the ignition on "on", the car will shut off.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Brr it's cold.

Thank God I moved 3/4 of a mile closer to the light rail. Only a 5 minute walk now as opposed to a 20 minute one.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Looks like we are getting some of your weather now, -2 this morning. This is the coldest winter in Maine since 1983, colder than the 30 yr average, my woodpile is shrinking rapidly. The good thing is the heating season is 1/3 over and we've gained 3 minutes of daylight :)
