Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Oh, they've been terrible for as long as I can remember. :)

The only good they had going for them was their weather maps with colors for temps and well defined fronts. Now those are more of a pain to get too, too annoying.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Parents just got back from six months in Naples, FL where they winter and I guess Pops is ready to go back. They still have snow on the ground and can ice fish on their lake in Northern Wisconsin.

My heart aches for him now that he doesn't have 80 degrees and sunshine like he did for the past 6 months.

Welcome back!

Oh ****. The Weather Channel has a guy broadcasting in the Twin Cities today.

NEVER a good sign when the Weather Channel is broadcasting where you live.

(Apparently the TORCON Index is 5. That must be bad.)

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

What in the actual **** is a TORCON? Sounds like something I'd need a wrench to use.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Is this an actual thing or something to titillate the Millennials?

Both... It's a flashy term they use on their broadcasts... But it does give a general potential for individual cells to develop tornadoes... From what I've seen, when they have it high (say, a 7 rating) there is usually a significant outbreak... When it's 3-5 you get spotty development, and just random twisters when it's low... It's nothing specific, but it serves it's purpose as a general outlook...

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

What's the deal with the tree with all the shoes in it?

The way it was told to me is:

Before your first final, you throw a pair of shoes tied together into the tree. If they stay in the tree, you'll have good luck on your finals. If they fall to the ground, you better study extra hard.

I've also heard variations that are targeted for seniors (throw them the day before you graduate for good luck after college) and freshman before their first day of college. But primarily it's been the day before finals.

rumor has it Minnesota has some interesting weather right about now.....

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Looks like its already dying but I believe that would be classified as a microburst cell.

Yeah already dying here. I keep my tv on the loud end, and the rain was still drowning it out.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Looks like TNWS issued a special statement about it. I have to imagine a severe thunderstorm warning will shortly follow.

1" hail and 40 mph gusts.
