A little lower than I expected (I thought Houghton had gotten hit twice for some reason.) Still a lot of liquid to deal with in 24 hours.
To be fair, that's seven miles North from Houghton. More could have fallen in the city.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

Based on the update from this morning, they've already made progress getting roads back open.

From FoxUP, TV 6 and Upper Michigan Source:

US-41 is open from Calumet to Hancock
US-41 from Chassel to Houghton has a single lane open again
Quincy Hill in Hancock has standing water and washouts, and should be traveled on
M-203 between Calumet and Hancock is impassable
M-26 between Tamarack City and Ripley is impassable
Access to Dollar Bay can only be made via Sunshine Road or Coal Dock Road
M-26 from Hubbell to Laurium is now passable

Still not good, but an improvement over 24 hours ago.

Google maps has the area with the Taco Bell and Burger King as being closed until December.

Guessing that is Sharon Ave. I wouldn't think it would take that long, that road would be a higher priority once the main roads like M-26 and US-41 are fixed.

Some of those time frames on Google Maps are just placeholders until work is completed. I was on a project that Google Maps showed as being closed until December, but we had the intersection back open two months later. MDOT/Houghton Co Road Commission likely doesn't know how long it will be closed for.

Also missing from the Google Maps closures is the obviously destroyed Agate Street.

Understood.

Anyone know how bad the damage was along Sheldon and Montezuma? I’ve seen a few pictures but it’s hard to convey the real damage sometimes.

Haven't heard anything about any road closures there. It looked like Dodge St. coming down the hill washed out some, and washed debris onto Sheldon, but I think Montezuma and Sheldon are intact themselves. Some of the businesses had some serious flooding in that area though. The KBC had a few inches on the floor of their taprooms, and then there's a basement under that. The buildings/businesses under the parking deck, like Center Ice Skate and Sport are probably destroyed. I saw a video from yesterday morning of water flowing out the broken glass door of one of those businesses, about 3 foot high water at that point.

Good to hear. Thanks for the updates everyone. Don’t have the same connections many of you do, but still have a soft spot for that part of the state.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

There is apparently a dam about ready to break in NW Wisconsin, on the Tamarack River. If/when it does break, which authorities are making sound like its imminent, there will be a **** ton of water flowing down that river, and into the St. Croix. The dam is currently holding back the Radigan Flowage.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

Asked whether they intended to repair the dam, Republicans said absolutely not but offered their thoughts and prayers.

If God wanted us to fix it, he wouldn't have let it break in the first place.

Re: Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

doesn’t god fix dams? I thought he hated dykes not dams

I think I saw that Sheldon is just a dirt road now. Intact, but a PITA, overall.

This sounds odd, but when we are up there next month, it would be very interesting to see the end results of this weekend (structures, mining stuff) like what you guys were talking about earlier.
