Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

I Tivo'd the game and watched the "brutal leg whip and pitchfork" back several times both live and slow-mo, Not only does she not even physically touch Baldwin, but only catches Baldwins stick with a slash. I would definitely have called it a slash, but had the refs had replay they would have gotten Baldwin for embellishment or simply being rather clumsy.

Welcome to the forum, Abby!

I am not sure "Brutal" is the right word for the leg whip but the intent was there. I have noticed all year that the gophers are either weak on their skates or the mgr is a poor skate sharpener.

First, I am not sure it really matters because I think it all starts to really matter in 2 weeks back at Ridder, but I am also surprised that nobody is talking about Steffens goal or not goal? I know it was reviewed by the officials but they also did not have an overhead view as part of the review process for this game. Live and watching it back, both the D and Peters look back in the goal to see if it went in. In addition, live or on TV I have never seen an 80 mph slap shot from 18 feet not make any sound?? I have also been a referee for years and yet to see a shot beat a goalie, make no sound, and call it a pipe. I did notice Halldorson call it "a good call by the officials". Not sure this is a 2 horse race this year anyways, the Bulldogs should be quite the challenge for both teams.

It was no goal...The replay from the side was conclusive as it showed the shot rebounding off the pipe.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

I stand corrected, I did just recently hear that Ridder installed those new goals with foam pipes.;)

I thought for sure it was a goal from my seat because there was no sound and it appeared to me to hit under the mesh at the top of the net. I was glad I was wrong. Sunday night I watched our taped video of the game specifically to see the called slash on Baldwin and "the good call by the officials." Definitely was a slash and I couldn't tell on the "goal."

I've watched replays of probably all of Halldorson's broadcasts of Gopher games and never heard any Sonmorlike calls. I'm sure she calls them as she sees them. But then I wouldn't expect anything less from the granddaughter of Florence whom we miss dearly visiting with at Ridder arena.

For sure. The dogs are back. I thought it would take another year or two to get all the players on the same page & clear out any bitterness leftover from the departure of she who will not be named. I figured they were a year ahead of OSU but they really came on. Can they replace Stalder & Bryk? we'll see but if they can the WCHA is going to be a lot more interesting next season. It would be fun to have 8 or 12 intense games that matter a year and not just 5 or 6.

you need to have your ears checked

since you are a referee, it wouldn't hurt to have your eyes checked too

It turns out that it was Tianna Gunderson that Lauren Miller needed to keep an eye out for.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

The Goohers are either unlucky to be down 1-0 after a period, or really lucky to only bedown by a goal. They had 3-4 great chances that could have gone in, but spent most of the period not moving their feet and getting outhustled.

You could say that this was a whole team failure and it was...But cheese and rice, that was a really bad goal to lose a game on.

I know I'm supposed to take it as a compliment that the Gophers always give the Badgers such great effort, always bring their 'A' game.

But really, feel free to insult us every now and then...
