Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Just ran across this commitment as shown on the Girls Hockey Hub. Miss Burton is only a freshman, so if my math is right she would be part of the Gopher's 2020-21 class, one year behind Madeline Wethington.

http://www.mngirlshockeyhub.com/roster_players/15124718?subseason=317782

From Iceburg on GPL:

2018
F Abby Boreen (Hill-Murray) from Somerset
F Taylor Heise (Red Wing) from Lake City
D Crystalyn Hengler (Eden Prairie)
F Emily Oden (Edina)
D Gracie Ostertag (Shattuck 16u) from Shakopee
F Catie Skaja (New Prague)

2019
D Madeline Wethington (Blake)

2020
F Addie Burton (Blake)
F Abbey Murphy (Chicago Mission U16)

From another GPL poster commenting about the last three committments to GWH:

"An Abby, an Abbey and an Addie?

Poor Madeline." ;)

nice to see they have broken Princeton's recent stranglehold on Blake
there are a few goals that would be nice to have

Does she go by the nickname Maddie?!

Piazza is out of the lineup, and it looks like Dani Cameranesi's Gopher career is over.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Very solid game tonight. Ohio State scored on their only chance of the second period, and they didn't get much more in the third. Without Cameranesi, and especially also without Piazza, this team is going to struggle to put the puck in the net, and they did so tonight. I thought Sauve played well but not outstanding; the Gophers just don't have much finishing at this point. The key is that they play solidly in the rest of the game.

Emma May got the start and the win. On the whole she was pretty good, though she turned one OSU possession into an adventure coming out of the crease; still, I'd rather see a third string goalie in her first big start be too aggressive rather than too passive. It'll be interesting to see who's in net tomorrow.

Buckeyes spent 2 1/2 periods in their end! Believe the winning goal went off a skate. It was that close to being a tie game. The only reason this was a close game was Sauve's play. Gophers played well and controlled the game. Buckeyes offense stayed in the locker room tonight.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Such a bummer about Dani Cameranesi. It appears she finished with 200 points. That is eighth in GWH history, one point behind Ambria Thomas.

Losing Dani is obviously a severe blow to this team, and it's too bad her Gopher career is cut short.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

I really enjoyed watching how hard the Gophers played and worked last night.

It got a little frustrating in the second period not being able to put one in the net but I loved how they were giving it everything they had. Their happiness when they finally broke through and for Emma May at the end was really nice to see :)

Went with a different goalie, seemed to work out ok with y'all only scoring 2 goals.

Couldn't agree more, KTDC. It was great to see all their hard work finally pay off at the end.

You bet. When they finally scored and tied the game the eruption of cheers from the fans at Ridder was tremendous. And after the game that certainly was the most hugs an opposing coach has ever received since Ridder opened. Muzerall really has her team playing well and an amazing improvement over the team we watched while in Columbus last year.

Great game and fun to watch, but sad to see Dani on crutches. Nice to see Brook and Baylee there with her though.

Completely agree. Buckeyes are not a very good team. Whats that saying? "Show me a great goalie and I will show you a good coach". I am not even sure the Buckeyes were trying to score and were hoping for a 0-0 tie. Not a system for offensive players.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

BTW-GWH got back in top 4 pairwise last night...haha :p

That would be NCAA nightmare-UW, UMD, UM all in top 4, right?

Honestly, Ohio State had 2 maybe 3 decent chances to score and cashed in on 1 of them. The game was that one-sided. Minnesota had many really good chances to score such that it was getting to the point where you would just take a guess as to how they were going to mess it up. For 3/4 of the game it just felt like it was going to end in 1-0 loss with Minnesota playing really well, just not finishing.

I paid attention to #33 for Ohio State and boy did she do her best impression of Minnesota's #9 for some pretty glaring turnovers. It felt like both #33 and #9 were in a competition to see who could have the biggest turnover. I'd give the edge to #9 when she blew a tire and fell just inside her own blue line. ;)

On the list of things we didn't need: now Kate Schipper is out , too.
