Time to turn the De-Frost on
Quoting Rodgers is never a good idea, particularly in a Gophers thread.Just one thought for Sidney Peters and I'll quote Aaron Rogers for it...RELAX.![]()
Coming into this season, I think we were aware that our roster didn't match up well with UW's, and to win any banners, we'd have to steal them. The disappointment has been the number of other teams that we can appear to be beneath for long stretches.I'm confident that a lot of the flaws in this team are temporary, though "temporary" may well mean the rest of this season.
When I think back over this season about which players are capable of making a play to swing a game on a somewhat regular basis, I'd list in some order: Pannek, Potomak, Cameranesi, Schipper, Stecklein, and Wolfe. Only the first two are back next year, so I'm hoping for addition by addition rather than by subtraction. You have good reason to be...The addition by subtraction that occurs after this year will infuse a whole lot of talent into an already pretty darn good lineup.

Yes there is. "Better dead than red." -- Gopher fans. I suddenly feel more inspired. There certainly isn't any Minnesota based quote that you can find inspiring.
Sure. Why not. She'll just hop into a nearby phone booth and ... wait! Are there even phone booths these days???Is Peters gonna run the table?
Saturday I wondered if maybe they were trying a little too hard.
Guys, I agree with pretty much all that is being said....
p.s. and bring back Cameranesi!
Isn't he the guy that wrote all those songs with Hammerstein? Why would Gopher fans be adverse to a little musical theater?Quoting Rodgers is never a good idea, particularly in a Gophers thread.

At least the team recovered in the 3rd. Just had a chance to watch it on the DVR as I couldn't view it live. I thought the Gophers played very well that period, and if they had displayed the same level of energy in Periods 1 and 2, the result would probably have been different. They definitely had their chances to win it. But kudos to UMD on making a great offensive play at the other end, taking advantage of yet another defensive coverage breakdown allowing McGovern to get free in the slot. Stalder made a great pass, and McGovern did not miss. But it was encouraging to see the Gophers battle until the very end, with several near-misses that nearly went in.My wife said after the 2nd period Friday, "I wonder if several of the players caught a flu bug. They have so little energy."
Short answer: Schipper has a temper, and is not always successful in controlling it.After her 2nd penalty on Saturday I asked, "What's gotten into Schipper? She has two penalties and could have had two more called?" Wife, "She's frustrated with the way the games going." Probably, but...
Great observation by your wife. I did notice on one occasion that right after UMD scored an obviously frustrated Peters immediately skated to the corner and hunched over. She was not looking for any pats on the back, and I can only surmise that she was thinking to herself, "I should have stopped that one". Whatever best helps her regain her focus, I suppose, but most often it's a team defensive lapse that leads to the goal against, so it makes sense for the team to come together, just as they do when they score. So after the 4th UMD goal Saturday my wife asks, "Did you notice how the Gopher players are not giving Peters a pat of encouragement after she allows a goal?" I did notice that after that allowed goal she skated out from her goal crease back and forth, maybe trying to relax?
I do try, but like #6 I am not always successful.Maybe we all need to relax and just enjoy our wonderful Gopher hockey.
But Minnesota wins in the post season.![]()
To continue with the need to relax theme, it may be that when Peters makes a "HUGE" save (to quote someone else's favorite word) on a breakaway caused by one of those defensive breakdowns that we have seen way too much of this season, it will fire up the whole team and help everyone to relax, including the fans. Haven't seen many of those saves yet this season, but I'm confident they will come. Even my wife will relax then, she said.
