doesn't it make you sick how ESPN shows women's volleyball, women's soccer and even women's college bowling but not hockey? I just don't get it.

I think ratings might have something to do with it. ;)

4-0 UM. SOG 35-18 with only 4 of BSUs shots in the 3rd period. Once again the 2nd line was the destroyer of dreams. A pretty typical BSU game except for a 5 minute stretch in the second. It started with Mowat, under no pressure, mishandling the puck and only a quick reaction by a D kept it out of the net. At that point is was 1-0 but for a time after that it was almost as if the Beavers were confused. The Gophers broke it open with 3 goals during that time for the 4-1 lead. The third period was mostly about not letting the Beavers get up though UM got 12 SOG. Two things I saw, BSU has gained speed (this was not the case against UND where they looked slower than I expected) and there was an awful lot of bumping going on. Mostly it was within the rules but I bet there are a lot of sore women icing bruises tonight. Also Anderson had a clean break away and made 2 beautiful moves but Leveille didn't bite on either and stuffed the chance. Anderson had a second chance a bit later that was not as good but still a break but got nothing out of it.

It was actually a ten minute stretch, but this was the key incident of the game. Mowat almost played the puck into her own net, and even though a Beaver defenseman cleared the puck off the goal line before Piazza could get to it, Bemidji came completely unglued and didn't put things back together until the intermission. A second Mowat fumble didn't help. The Gophers did their part to keep them off balance with some tremendous pressure.

For the other 50 minutes of the game, Bemidji looked like a Top 5 team. They play as hard as they have in previous years and now they look like they have some ideas about how to score. They didn't bring any of them to fruition, but Leveille had to make at least three spectacular saves to keep it that way.

This was the best game that Minnesota has played this year. The defensive coverage was a lot better, despite giving up some chances. Brandt and Cameranesi looked a lot more mobile, though the former did go down a number of times. That helped on the defensive end, and even though Brandt didn't end up on the score sheet, she looked better than she has in a while.

There's not much left to say about the Pannek/Piazza/Schipper line except to note that they have a future as successful supervillains if they choose that line of work.

I continue to be very impressed by the third line overall and Brook Garzone in particular. She had one play that didn't quite come to fruition but that involved a move of incredible strength at center ice and another of hands and agility in the face-off circle that brought her in on goal. She's playing fabulously. Taylor Williamson had a couple of great chances to net her first goal, and just missed with a pass to Caitlyn Reilly on a 2-on-1 break.

Just a very well played game by the Gophers.

I agree, college bowling ahead of hockey? Really? Women's college hockey has to find a way to somehow grab the coattails of Olympics and parlay that into interest in the college game the next Olympic cycle.

What's more pathetic is the b6 has it's own freaking tv network and they pretty much ignore women's college hockey. That network could help grow the women's game. There's no reason (besides ratings and money, blah blah blah) why they could not have a women's game of the week. Usually you have to invest money and effort to gain traction/exposure for a product before it grows and succeeds.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.....

In a hockey mad state we can't get 3500 people to show up regularly to watch one of the best teams in the country even when they are winning national championships (meanwhile they draw 6000 for a volleyball game?!?) its expensive to cover hockey, takes a lot of cameras and some expertise, bowling is cheap to produce so while the numbers are not as good the profits are higher & modern collegiate sports is all about the profits

NOTE TO EEYORE: actually it was just a bit over 8 minutes . . .you are not the only pendant here :)

Anyone know why the game time for next Saturday's game is still "TBA"? I'm trying to plan my day and this is holding things up!

Gopher football has a home game that day that is also "time TBA" that is holding everything up -- it's dependent on the television networks and is supposed to be announced tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday. The time of the GWH game will be announced shortly after that.

Must be a pain for the visitor's travel plans as well.

Do not attempt this against the master pedant. Mowat's fumble came about two minutes before Panek's goal.

I wouldn't worry about it, country clubs generally aren't busy in November.

I'm assuming you made a Bold Prediction that Hannah would get her 100th goal last night and/or get a couple assists, given the Beavers kept her scoreless last night.

If I had you would have read it, so you assume incorrectly...same as you did regarding my concern for those travel plans.

Ask your doctor about Viagra pokey. Perhaps it works on limp brains as well. Worth a shot.

Volleyball is unique to females in this state, no boys or men's team, thus, nobody can compare it and write it off as a lessor version of the sport, and no competition, if you want to see volleyball, the girls/women's game is the only game in town
before hockey came to girls/women, I never missed a state tournament and went to quite a few Gopher matches
