Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

And it is clear the Gophers should have gone on the power play for the check thrown on the first one. There was no way everyone in the building didn't see that. Open ice, check the puck carrier & knock her down, one would expect both refs saw that.

I was out of town all of last week and only had my phone so I really hadn't seen anything other than score updates on the games with UND. Getting a chance to see the highlights now I was curious to see how Dufault scored the second UND goal...

All I can say after watching that is that was a "no doubt about it" penalty in the women's game. That play should have never happened.

I agree, but I'd have an easier time mustering outrage if UND hadn't clearly outplayed the Gophers over 60 minutes. On the list of things that caused the loss, bad officiating ranks pretty low.

Very good. My feelings exactly.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

I disagree that the Gophers were "clearly outplayed over 60 minutes." They were certainly outplayed in the 2nd period, but the 31 shots apiece is a fairly accurate representation of the game. As Gopher fans we're used to them dominating most teams and when it doesn't happen we're surprised. The officiating was fairly even except one horrendous non call that ended up costing them the game in my opinion.

Aside from a difference of opinion on the relative quality of play, we also have a disagreement about evaluating bad calls. This non-call wasn't any worse than a number of others that went both ways over the course of the game. At the time the call was made, there was nothing to indicate that it would lead to a goal. It had a pretty good chance of leading to a scoring chance, but so did a number of others. The fact that UND converted that opportunity does not, in and of itself, make the non-call any more egregious; that can only be evaluated at the time that a call is blown, not with subsequent information.

Commendable refreshingly objective take.

No outrage on my part. I just commented on the obvious check that should have resulted in a stoppage of play.

Not seeing anything other than the highlights the no-names posted, I can only go by comments from yourself and others on how the game went.

"This non-call wasn't any worse than a number of others that went both ways over the course of the game." Why, of course it was, old sport.

eeyore picked a fitting name
the non call took a scoring chance for one team and turned it into a scoring chance for the other, the worst possible mistake by an official
if you never played a sport it probably escapes you that an obvious call like that that isn't called can catch everyone with their guard down, the players expect a call, even if they relax for only a fraction of a second it might be enough to give the other team an opportunity that wouldn't have otherwise happened.

Big congrats to Nos. 19 and 26!

PANNEK, POTOMAK HONORED BY WCHA

a number of Gopher forwards could have been honorable mention, or even the player of the month, but I won't argue with who they picked
and McMillen was the only skater selected as honorable mention for defensive player of the month, against UMD, the night she was the first star of the game, I hope it wasn't because she notched her 100th point, she was simply the best player on the ice that night, and considering how Pannek & Cameranesi played that night, that is no small statement.

My point was that this was hardly the only blown call that resulted in a scoring chance. (And calling it a potential Gopher scoring chance before the non-call is ridiculous; it was going to be a breakout pass, and not an especially notable one.) It was the only egregious call that turned into a converted scoring chance, but that doesn't make it a worse call than the ones that the teams failed to do anything with.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Oh my! Is someone actually suggesting that a bad call or a NO CALL was the difference in the game?

We are talking about the Gophers… correct? The very same team that has suffered only a hand full of losses over the past 4+ years. Winners of three of the past four National Championships (4 of 4 if they didn’t let their arrogance get in the way)… a team who gets whomever they want and then some…who’s transfer walk on players were arguably the best player from the team they left… and at the time the # 1 ranked team in the country…those Gophers?

Just asking…

Also… it was suggested that this was possibly a onetime letdown, a fluke as it were… maybe but when it’s been done 3 years in a row it could be considered a trend.
And for those who continue to slam the Hawks, remember they are the only team to have beaten the past 3 National champions in the season that they won it.

Just saying...

Arrogance was the reason Minnesota lost the 2013/2014 National Championship game? I did not know that.

Well, at least Clarkson can now know that it wasn't about them winning the championship, it was the Gopher's letting arrogance get in the way of them winning a third straight championship.
