Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Arrogance was the reason Minnesota lost the 2013/2014 National Championship game? I did not know that.

Well, at least Clarkson can now know that it wasn't about them winning the championship, it was the Gopher's letting arrogance get in the way of them winning a third straight championship.

With all due respect to Clarkson, they played a hell of a game and have the trophy to prove it... but when your biggest concern leading up to the contest was which color jersey you were going to wear for the team victory picture... I would say focus may have been a little obstructed.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Alright, THE non-call wasn't the only thing that cost the Gophers the game against the future Fighting Hawks or Roughriders. There was also that 5 minute lost opportunity at the start of the game, injured and missing players (including Menefee), a lack of urgency and intensity for long stretches by the Gophers, but most of all they lost because of the continuous tenacious play of the team formerly known as the Sioux even when the Gophers had them reeling near the end of the game.

Actual conversation while sitting up at the bar at the Green Mill with the three TVs over the bar showing the Timberwolves, Gophers and Wild games.

Wild fan to our right: "Nice check!"

Timberwolves fan to our left: "Do they allow checking in women's hockey?"

My wife: "The refs must have thought it was incidental contact."

Wild fan: "Nice incidental contact."

Whatever it was, it was clearly not incidental contact. That's an opinion of course.

At this point I'm just looking forward to the rematch in Minneapolis.

Of course the Beavers are the focus at present. They'll be stoked...in a battle for 2nd place in the WCHA.

No...not forgetting the games in hand.

Oh great, Bemidji. First Tomcikova, now Mowat. No problem there for the Gophers to score. It should be exciting, I just hope I'm not looking away when the lone goal is scored.

Incidental, incidentally or incidental contact… I like that depiction and what a great adjective! I believe that could be used to describe countless situations throughout the game… Like when # 13 for the Maroon and Gold incidentally cross checked #11 behind the net (significantly more blatant then the #22 hit, to which she got the hook, but I guess far more random) or when #13 had incidental contact with her knee and the knee of #4 during the celebration of #19’s second goal…which incidentally took #4 out of the game (and who incidentally appeared to be limping quite noticeably there after)… Then after serving only 2 minute (roughing) for said incident (instead of game misconduct) it was clearly incidental as she proceeded to lower her shoulder and knock another unsuspecting ND player to the ice… So given this context, one could approximate that the lack of competent officiating was incidental to the desired outcome.;)

there may be some truth to that, but then why aren't you criticizing Harvard, Boston University, or Wisconsin for their color choices? What about BC's color choice against Harvard last year?

we can't criticize a bad call? Nobody said it was the difference in the game, the fact that you are being so defensive tells me you believe the Flickertails would have lost if the ref hadn't blown that call.

If the worst thing you can say about the Gophers over the last 4 years is that they shouldn't have given any thought to their uniform selection for 2014, I think we can live with that.

Of course maybe some day in your lifetime you'll get lucky and the Flickertails might actually be faced with what color uniform to wear in the national championship game. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

... took #4 out of the game ...
So you're saying UND's #4 was injured by the actions of another team's player while she was celebrating a goal by her team? I don't want anyone to get injured, but there was surely some serious karma at work there that has been building up for years based on multiple actions by #4.

As for 2014 jersey colors, that is rather old news. The topic here is 2015-16 Gophers.

Fully aware of the thread and was certainly not my intent to move the direction….The jersey comment was a inconsequential reference used to establish the perspective I was really trying to convey... Another poster fixated on this minor point, I can only guess in an attempt to deflect from the absurdity of suggesting officiating played a factor in the game.

Karma…I thought her name was Milica;)

the only person fixated on it is you, you have turned the story of the game into one involving penalties with your incessant defensiveness on the issue

looking forward to seeing some good games at Ridder this weekend

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

We've missed Menefee a lot this year. Similar to Nina Rodgers in that she's not the swiftest of skaters, but they both skate and compete hard all over the ice. Menefee's presence around the net has been missed this year as well. I have no idea where coach Frost should put her, but probably not on the Brandt line which has been great when they have all been healthy. I hope that that will happen soon, too. The week off should have helped.

I know what you're saying, but I'm not sure it is true. They're averaging over six goals a game, so it's not like others aren't showing a presence around the net.

The week off should have helped.
It kind of depends on what the issues are. Last year, it seemed that Lorence had to deal with her injury all season, no matter if there was a break or not.
