You didn't miss much. OSU decided they best chance was to slow everything down. Makes for a dull, grind it out game. Nice win just not much fun to watch
It started working with about 9 minutes left in the first.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

OSU played a great game today. Hats off to them. They will beat the Gophers soon, mark my words.
They're certainly due. The last time the Buckeyes beat the Gophers, Tessa Bonhomme and LiSA Chesson were still playing. I think that was over eight years and like 37 games ago.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

The Boyle misconduct thing just keeps looking stranger and stranger to me.

The PA announcement was given twice and each time was barely audible due to crowd noise. All that I ever heard clearly was that it was an unsportsmanlike conduct minor and some sort of misconduct. They hauled number 10 over there to serve the minor and there was a bit of a comedy of errors in getting that part posted properly. In the end the minor and who served the time ended up correctly posted.

But what about the misconduct? If it was a 10 minute misconduct number 6 should have been released from the box with 43 seconds left in the second.

Instead she stayed in through the end of the period and only came out at some point that I didn't exactly notice except that it was after the coincidental minors expired after 1:03 of the third.

The official box score says GAME MISCONDUCT?

But she clearly played in the third period. I was wondering about the misconduct and was watching to see, I saw her out there. She played in the third period.

Very strange.

Must have learned from watching the Gophers/Beavers film. Hopefully the Gophers will come out tomorrow with more energy in the rematch, and will get things back to where they where they were before the month-long break which, based on today's play, obviously didn't do them much good.

The unsportsmanlike was for shooting the puck at the goalie after the whistle. As for the posting, yes, it was confused.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

My guess is that the unsportsmanlike conduct was for the shot Boyle rifled over Leveille's head after the whistle had blown and maybe the game misconduct was related to that play as well. Doocy, in his inimitable fashion tried to explain his reasoning to Jenny Potter without apparent success. Later in the game a Gopher took a shot that may have been after the whistle and Doocy tried to explain that the two plays were not comparable to Mrs. Potter. The shot by Boyle may have knocked out Leveille if it had been a little bit lower and she hadn't been paying attention after the whistle blew. The Gopher shot may have stopped from it's own inertia before it reached the OSU goalie. This is all pure conjecture on my part, but that's the way it looked from our seats.

The Gopher shot, by McMillen, was well after the whistle, and hard, but it also wasn't directed anywhere near the OSU goalie. And, remember, Julia McKinnon sparked a brawl between these two teams when she did this, aimed right at Leveille, last year. I will not be in the least disappointed when she's finished her eligibility.

I don't think the issue was a lack of energy. They were a bit sloppy at times, but not excessively.

The problem today was that they were profligate with their chances close to the OSU net. They really ought to have had three or four more goals given the way OSU spent the first half of the game letting them operate unmolested from the slot in. A bunch of passes misconnected; some shot attempts were flubbed, going everywhere except in the net, and Alex LeMare made some nice saves.

It also seemed to me that every time the puck was pinballing around it ended up on a Buckeye stick. I hate the term "puck luck" because it is too often an excuse but in this case it applies. The Gophers had some great chances for rebounds but never a break. And, yeah, timing was an issue too; many near-miss one-touch shots.

Also, did the score keeper fall asleep during the game? There were long stretches with no change in SOG and the totals are not even close to what I saw.

. . .
Very strange.

I assumed the 2 was for the shot and the 10 was for something she said. I noticed Doocey put himself between her and the Gopher players right away so maybe he remembered last year. I couldn't see her mouth but I saw Doocey say something that looked 'sharply worded'.

BTW - that shot was not even close to the whistle, I was stunned by it because it was much later than most of those garbage shots. I missed 13's, probably cleaning up, so no idea what that looked like. I thought the refs let Potter get away with one on an icing in the first period where 17 was ordered back on the ice but returned to the bench 4 times and had to be ordered back out. That was the longest delay I have ever seen a team get away with that long a rest before the faceoff.

Your words have been marked!!! I wouldn't bet your 401k on it

I would expect OSU to be a very difficult team to play against next year. A lot of talent and more coming. The JP influence is being felt. They may not beat the Gophers this year however look for a couple of W's next year.

I just didn't think their usual intensity and focus was there, especially on the forecheck. Not across the board, but with certain players. And yes I realize it's very difficult to bring the same high level every game, but that consistency is largely responsible for the Gopher's tremendous success the past few years.

With Minnesota 2nd and OSU 7th, there is a strong possibility that they meet in a WCHA quarterfinal this year, so today would be one of three or four remaining games. Thus far, I don't think the Buckeyes are back to where they were a year ago. That's understandable with what they graduated and the loss of Jincy for the season, but there is still a considerable talent gap between the two sides.

Minnesota, without Brandt again today and Peters in net, will be a pretty similar to next years team and it's not like Ohio State has a monopoly on "a lot of talent and more coming" so we will see about a couple of W's next year for OSU.

BTW, 9-0 for Minnesota so far today late in the third.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Which matches what another Minnesota team was able to score today...

Two words for you...Idiot kicker ;)

BTW, I have been out of the loop since before Christmas traveling so I am not aware as to why Brandt isn't in the lineup. So I apologize if this is information that is already out there, but does anyone have an info on this?
