Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred
wow. just got back after a brief stop for paint thinner on the way home
for the first time ever I had tickets in the 2nd row about 5 people to the left-hand side of the goal judge opposite the student section so saw all 3 UW goals happen pretty much right in front of me
thoughts on the game
1st period fairly even
2nd mostly UW
3rd mostly UMN
I'm not sure what people are calling a trap, it sure didn't look like UW in 03 but I also wasn't in my accustomed seats, anyway I digress
thoughts on the teams
UW
Zengerle/Barnes/LaBate can really dominate at times. by the end of the year they'll be VERY tough to contain. they're reminding me more and more of the Michigan 96 line of Botterill-Morrison and I forget the 3rd guy
Schultz had a MONSTER game. all the little things he did tonight between taking the right angles to the puck or chipping it or making saucer passes right on the tape. just unreal.
Rumpel is the man. he had 2-4 really tough/impressive saves that kept the game in UW's favor
Jason Clark...*** were you thinking crossing in front of Rumpel w/the puck and at least 2 gophers w/in 5 feet of you? I didn't see the coaches talk to him about that, they let it be known by replacing him for the remainder of the period w/R. Little it appeared
overall, great hustle. bring it tomorrow!
MN
Rau is a ****ing monster. that kid has speed, slick moves and from what I can tell plays with an attitude. exactly what the gophs have been looking for I think
Bjugstad. I had no idea how big that kid was. man he should be a Jon LeClair type player and bull rush the net
actually the entire gopher team played (it seemed to me) with a bit more fire than I've seen in the past, and I mean with their hits and finishing checks. I know their fans maybe didn't see it that way tonight...
Patterson. great goalie, he had 0 chance on two of those goals. not sure on the Meuer goal, that seemed to zip past his head and I don't know how the hell a goalie defends that, it's such an awkward angle.
overall great time.
behind me were 4 friends, 3 UW fans and a MN fan. ribbing each other all game, and no-one taking anything personally it was hilarious to hear all game.
I LOVE the UW/MN series
oh, and a question for JDubbs or other MN posters, I see 4 non-minnesotans on roster. is that the highest that number has ever been? it seems like it would be, at least in the modern era?
