Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

The crazed goofer fans are not capable of being objective. Even Michelletti (sp) said it was a clean hit. If he pops right up after than, no one is calling for a rope. The fact that he laid there twitching has everyone's undies in a bundle. It wasn't pretty, but it was not malicious. I have a much bigger issue on Soleway's 2 minute boarding call. That should have been 5.

Apparently that fact doesn't bother you in the least?

When it's someone else's kid... entertain me *****es! Am I right?

Sounds like eaves is appealing the suspension.

It was a clean hit 20 years ago, not today, but what would eaves know.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

Was that too personal?

Sorry (not really), but I don't care for your flippant attitude about someone "laying twitching on the ice."

Yeah, his attitude is completely unacceptable (and honestly, disturbing) given what we know of concussions and these hits now.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

As most of you know, I do not often post on USCHO. I am so deeply disappointed, saddened, frustrated, and sickened by the current state of the proudest tradition in college hockey. This, after hoping against hope that last year's disaster was some type of anomaly. It clearly wasn't. I was not only sickened by the results of getting pasted by our archrivals and everybody else we play, but the goonery (see Cavalini's head shot), the cheap shots, the embarassing post game comments ("sometimes this happens"), and the overall acceptance of this garbage by the coaching staff and administration.

I have contacted Barry Alvarez and advised him that I would not attend another Badger Hockey game again unless this situation was rectified by total and complete regime change. I have been a Badger fan for 40 years and this is very hard for me, but I will not stand by idly while the program burns. I have watched the program dissolve into a pathetic shadow of its once proud self. I do not put this on the kids who are trying, but are clearly outmatched. I don't put this on the fanbase. I don't put this on anyone but the apathetic UW Athletic Department and Mike Eaves. If there is a Mike Eaves defender or supporter out there that isn't a family member or player he actually mistakenly offered a scholarship, I'd love to have this debate. I stood up on Saturday night, calmly went down to the boards, and demanded an explanation from Eaves as to how this kind of performance can be rationalized (I used a bit more colorful language than that) and all that clown could do was look away. This guy is a disgrace and must be replaced immediately. If this situation is not immediately rectified, these seasons will become permanent.

There is not a person who posts here who supports this program more than I, and who knows this program in and out more than I. I urge all of you to complain, to email, to challenge these so called directors to stop caring more about "revenue sports" (i.e. bouncyball and football) and to return to glory the ONE and ONLY flagship national powerhouse program in men's athletics by demonstrating some type of appreciation for the traditions and history of this program.

BTW, I haven't gotten that upset at a UW Hockey coach in my entire life. I was so disgusted by the seeming lack of concern that was apparent on Eaves' face during that game that I got viscerally angry. This man has got to be run out of town. He should be ashamed of what has happened and step aside for the good of this program.

Wisconsin Hockey: Rant Over.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

joeyv - You guys deserve better. Was at the game on Saturday and to see a crowd that size despite the lack of production on the ice was impressive. All the people around us were great too. I had to remind people it wasn't all that long ago that we went thru our own downturn. It's not fun as a fan.

I know I've done more than my share to antagonize in the past, but I will say it was only because I love the rivalry so much. It's sad when either of our programs are down. These games are what got me hooked on college hockey in the late 70's and early 80's.

I do hope you guys get the program righted as you do deserve better, and college hockey deserves better. College hockey isn't as healthy without a healthy Badger program.

So #Badgers Wittchow gets 3 game (1+2) suspension from B1G. Prolly has something to do w him whacking Bristedt last ssn.

Good. That guy is a clown and an embarrassment as the C.

@mnStateofHockey: Thanks for the "support" :) It has been an awfully difficult time to be a Badger fan and I usually can internalize my frustration...but I cannot any longer.

Wisconsin Hockey: Send in the Clowns.

It will get better man. I know it doesn't feel like it now, but you can't keep a program like WI down long. And no need to apologize for the frustration. We've been there. Do what you've got to do :)

Dude. :(

MN Hockey: it's all I got for you. ;)

Seeler had an elbowing/contact to the head penalty earlier this year that I don't think I saw one single Gopher fan defending. So don't come at me with the "crazed goofer fan" garbage.

I haven't said it until now since I agree that it's a bad hit that has to be punished to make the game safer, but...

To be fair, the Gopher fan reaction here has been pretty over the top, in a distinctly Gopher fan kind of way.

I don't know how to put it without making it seem like they shouldn't be upset over the hit in general, but reading here you'd think Wittchow threw an elbow from the blindside and took a payment from Alvarez in the tunnel.

eaves would know it's a clean hit...he lives in the past with his style of hockey, so to him it's all good.

Keith Ballard's career ended with one big hit last year. He's far from the only hockey player to have a career ended by a dangerous hit. I wear a rubber band on my wrist to this day in support of Jack Jablonski. He'll likely never walk again.

I don't think the reaction is over the top enough. They need to eliminate these hits from the game. If that means being "over the top" in a "Gopher kind of way", then so be it.

I'm not going to say you're insensitive, but you clearly don't appear to get the severity of this type of head trauma. How many NFL and NHL players have taken their lives or died because of head trauma while playing?

Let me know how "over the top" we have to get for people like you to understand and we'll make sure we take it to that level. And it isn't a Gopher vs Badger fan thing either. I've seen comments from Gopher fans that don't think the hit was a big deal. The same people who didn't think Seeler's hit earlier this year was a big deal.

PS - Thank you Gurt for your measured words on this topic. Your words are being shared in multiple forums today. Much respect for you my friend.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

He should know better. His own career and his son's own career ended early because of concussion issues.

he should...it was a joke about him living in the past. I want him in our past and for us to have a new coach. I support the suspension,

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

I have a family friend who played for Air Force and had to retire from hockey early because of concussion issues. Got his last concussion when a teammate simply patted him firmly on the top of his helmet. He has issues with headaches to this day, over 10 years since he's played.

Head trauma is no joke.
