Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

There was another CFB by a badger that was called a boarding instead, but it was a classic CFB. Eaves after all these calls acts like he has to take a big steamer with his facial expressions(pretty entertaining) and can't believe that the refs would call these on his poor innocent team. Maybe he doesn't understand the rule book.

doosh

The incident involved Soleway in the corner on Bristedt. Hitting from behind on the numbers pushing the player head first into the boards is a clear CFB and that's exactly what Soleway did. Not a fan of Jedd Soleway, and IMO based upon what I've seen of him in the past is a dirty player and Eaves does very little about it.

There is malice there. This is the second time this POS has headhunted a skater in maroon and gold. He's a repeat offender.

I agree with you. The 5 min. penalty was ruled a "hit to the head". I've also watched the video in slow motion several times, and at the initial point of contact Novak's head immediately reels back (not his chest as one poster has suggested). This is a classic case of a targeted hit to the head. There's no doubt in my mind he'll sit two games for the hit.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

Um a head can reel back as a result of contact to the chest. I paused it and see clear contact to chest but he also got him in the head. Some hits are just to the head, some aren't. That's all i'm saying.

Totally disagree, initial contact was in the neck/head region not the chest. It's a targeted hit to the head and the Big Ten will most likely slap another game on the DQ as a malicious hit to the head. We will see.

And again, not saying i think it was a clean hit. It wasn't.

22 second mark is what i am referring to. I just think calling it direct, intentional head contact isn't accurate here. But we disagree

Your video doesn't work. No, IMO intentional hit to the head is accurate. Check it here > HIT. Pause it at :22 and then use your mouse to slide the guide for slowmo. If he was hit in the chest his upper torso would recoil first not his head. Wittchow's shoulder pad went directly into Novak's chin/neck area at :22.

The head was back and to the left. Definitely from the grassy knoll:)

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 1/22 & 1/23

In defense of Eaves I think it's reflexively instinctual for a coach to react as he did in the heat of the moment and protest a call being more than 2 minutes. I could be wrong - I don't recall how Lucia reacted earlier against SCSU when the Gophers rightfully received a stiff penalty for a bad hit.

Well that's your opinion. You certainly know more about the player and his history etc. I'm just going off what i see with this hit. I slowed it down and paused it. Some hits are to the head only, some are indirect contact where initial contact is elsewhere.

The crazed goofer fans are not capable of being objective. Even Michelletti (sp) said it was a clean hit. If he pops right up after than, no one is calling for a rope. The fact that he laid there twitching has everyone's undies in a bundle. It wasn't pretty, but it was not malicious. I have a much bigger issue on Soleway's 2 minute boarding call. That should have been 5.

I am absolutely objective. I was one of few saying Rau should have been suspended for his hit on Labate a few years back. There is absolutely no need for that hit, or this one. People give no thought to the serious life-long issues that can result from head trauma. Eddie is a good kid, but he's made some bone head decisions on the ice. Much like Seeler has for the Gophers.

Seeler has been talked to by Lucia. Wonder if Eaves has sat down Eddie? Doubt it. Wittchow got two games for a similiar hit last year. He got a DQ for this hit, and I will he stunned if he doesn't get at least an extra game. I'd give him more.

Not sure what disgusts me more. Good kids having their bad decisions reinforced by poor coaching, or brain dead fans thinking their entertainment supersedes the health of the players they watch.

And FYI - That hit is a suspendable hit in today's NHL too. Onus is on the player making contact, and principle point of contact was clearly his chin (regardless of what he was trying to hit). You can't hit a defenseless player in the head. Period.

Sounds like I was right.

At the press conference today, MM said that the BIg Ten has imposed additonal time for Wittchow. Eaves said they wouldn't announce the duration yet because they were upset and wanted to explore an appeal first.

Seeler had an elbowing/contact to the head penalty earlier this year that I don't think I saw one single Gopher fan defending. So don't come at me with the "crazed goofer fan" garbage.
