Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

Definitely Rau's best game of the season, and same for Budish. Do you think it just MIGHT have something to do with them being re-united on the line with Bjugstad?

The player who I thought did NOT have a very good game was A.J.; I wonder if we might see Ryan Reilly playing on the 4th line tomorrow night?

Also, I think Adam Wilcox deserves a chance to start in Mankato tomorrow night. It will be interesting to see what Lucia does.

outside of michaelson whiffing on the wide open, front of the net one timer- i thought he was fine. much rather keep him on the 4th line than holl. IMO the 4th line every night should be serratore-michaelson-r reilly

i also think they should sit mike reilly tonight. he has not looked good in his own end

Agreed. With a healthy Warning, I'd like to see...

Budish-Bjugstad-Rau
Condon-Haula-Warning
Isackson-Boyd-Ambroz
Reilly/Horn-Michaelson-Serratore

Schmidt-Peranteau
Alt-Marshall
Helgeson-Reilly/Skjei

Wilcox

I really think they need to put Alt back with Marshall. See if Alt's game improves. If it doesn't, try Holl there. I think Reilly and Skjei should get one night a piece until they adjust to the college game. Both have shown flashes, but have also made their share of freshman mistakes. Let them concentrate on one night until they make it hard to sit them.

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

yeah id like to see condon stay on the 2nd line when warning comes back. i think condon has the speed to play the off wing

isackson-boyd-ambroz wont score much.. but they are all good in the corners. that would be a tough 3rd line to play against

They could always move Warning down and Isackson up too if need be. Some options there.

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

I agree with much of the posts right above this one.

I'm hoping Marshall goes back to D tonight. Going forward, I really think the D should be:
Parenteau - Schmidt
Alt - Marshall
Helgeson - Reilly/Skjei

For the forwards, I'd like to see the top 2 lines stay as they were last night. I know a lot of people like what they see from Warning, but he really has done little for me. We all know Condon can play against the top line and top pairing from opposing teams. And maybe Warning would benefit from being paired against the bottom part of the opposition's line-up on a more regular basis.

I also think Holl has looked pretty decent on that 4th line. I don't mind seeing him there regularly.

Last night was an important win for MN. It was a game that very easily could have ended in a tie, or even a loss. And lost points in these types of series are the ones you go back to at the end of the season when counting up the missed opportunities for points that would move you up in the standings.

Gophers need to come out and complete the sweep tonight. My guess is that it's going to be another close game, so they better be ready to put the effort in that they showed in the 3rd last night.

About time to DROP THE PUCK!

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

***? Purple cows fast out of the gate.

We are very lucky to only be trailing by one. The Mavs totally dominated until the last few minutes of the 3rd. But the Gophers are starting to pick up the pace, and can pull even if they can capitalize on the PP to open the 2nd.

Note that A.J. is not in the lineup tonight. If the coaches were happy with his play last night, I don't think he would be sitting in the stands tonight.

Don and Mike really needs to figure things out defensively. And the slow, lifeless starts are getting really old.

WAY too many unforced errors, and even Wilcox couldn't bail them out. The first 10 minutes were very painful to watch.

Can't play a 1st period on the road like that, they did play much better in the 2nd and 3rd but had too many turnovers.

So is MSU going to drop their next 5 games, just like Michigan Tech has done after beating us, so this loss will look even worse. Seriously weak.

You can't spot any WCHA team two goals in the first and expect it to end well often. I am still confident that they'll get it figured out.

with all due respect, thats the same coaching staff that, while 6 of these defensemen have played bad enough to warrant sitting, 8 of them have continuously been penciled into the lineup. frankly, i dont care what this coaching staff thinks of the players performances, including michaelson on friday.

the players in the lineup arent getting it done right now, and the coaches wont sit some of them. put it on the coaches

Great win by the Mavericks tonight. We saw flashes of a very good hockey team competing against one of the best in the country. If we can get this PK situation figured out and continue to get better, an put together 60 minutes of hockey, we will be a solid hockey team.

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

The Gophers did not answer the bell tonight, came out lethargic in the 1st and it cost them a W (Grade: D). The Gophers passing, D and transition game was non-existent in the 1st (3 icing calls in the first few minutes) essentially shooting themselves in the foot and quickly fell behind 2-0 in the first 10 min. Overall, this was the worst period for the Gophers this season, who were outshot 19-7 in the first.

Adam Wilcox made several good saves in the 1st and throughout game under heavy pressure at times, (Grade: A-). Erik Haula was a warrior tonight, with a goal and a assist (3 pts. this weekend)...and was robbed at the end of second period on a huge save by Phil Cook. Overall, a poor showing for the Gophers, who did not play hard for a full 60 minutes tonight and were outshot for the first time this season, 35-28.

Going into the game the Gophers had scored in 18 out of 20 periods so far this season, but were denied in the third as Wilcox was beat on a nice shot near the top of the circle and the Mavs took the lead 4-3 and then added an ENG. Credit the Minnesota State University Mavericks who came out fired up, played a physical, full 60 minutes and notched a much needed first win in the WCHA. Phil Cook was the star for the Mavs tonight, who played solid for 3 periods, stopping some very good 3rd period scoring chances by the Gophers. Final: Mavs 5, Gophers 3.
