Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

Hayes is a big dude. Did I like the hit he put on Hanowski? Absolutely not. Do I think he tried to injure him? I doubt it. I see his team was down 3-0 and a big power forward trying to energize his team with a big hit.

The hit on LeBlanc Saturday was way worse. That was clearly out of frustration. The game was already over.

People get their panties in a bunch over the dumbest ****. I can't believe the Marvin was brought up. Maybe because a bunch Husky fans are crying like little *****es. Serves us right for crying just like the Green ******** did a couple years ago. Dudes get hurt in hockey. It sucks. It's over. Move on.

Well obviously. No one looks to SCSU for education on anything.

SCSU is clearly way behind on educating their graduates in the field of sitting in their mother's basements and running up a total of 53,917 posts and counting.

Quite. Look how capable I am of doing multiple things at one time while you obviously did not acquire this skill at any point in your life and thus are completely unable of both sit in your mom's basement and post. I am obviously much more talented than you.

Everything Rocco does is a good thing. Except for when he told the ladies to cover up their tatas. That was a bad thing.

Finally someone says it. Every team has plays that they shouldn't make. Every team "runs the goalie". Every team checks from behind. Every team hits high. And every team charges. MSU does. UND does. SCSU does. Even the blameless U of M does. I'm not condoning it, but very few teams are dirty teams. There are plays made that end up in injuries and it's unfortunate. That's just the reality when young men are skating that hard and fast and are as big as they are.

There sure is some talent on display all over this thread. :P

Seriously though. It happens all the time on these boards. In a game where the score is lopsided and a big hit results in an injury, that is the pathetic fan's first resort. "Gooning it up" accusation. It is magnified 10x if it happens to a star player. The most irritating thing about the Hayes hit on Hanowski is that it happened well behind the play. Who knows. Maybe Ben was talking about his Mom. I know one thing for sure, I will not be starting a "We want Hayes" campaign like the green pukes did with Marvin.

In Saturday's game MSU out shot SCSU 36-30. Luckily Faragher was on his A game and robbed most of the grade A chances MSU had. I get the impression that many are taking shots at MSU and talking down at their program. Many will be surprised at how tough this team will be this year. For those who watch a lot of hockey it is easy to see. This is not a cupcake team.

I don't see anyone saying Kato is a cupcake team but it is not unreasonable to say both those hits were dirty when they were.
It doesn't matter if "every team does it" there is still no place for it.
Motzko nearly came off the bench when LeBlanc was hit and he was not happy with Hayes' hit on Hanowski.
He commented on his show yesterday that the coaches were presented a possible rule change saying that if a player takes a 5 in the last 5 minutes of a game then it's an automatic DQ.
The coaches didn't pass it, Motzko is in favor of it.
Would that have stopped Leitner on Saturday?
Maybe not, but maybe it stops him the next time knowing he's going to be sitting.
Hanowski being hurt isn't the problem, nor the reason I'm bringing it up, it's the fact that this type of "hockey" shouldn't be tolerated regardless of who does it.

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

Hey what's going on in here?! Finger pointing, blanket statements about programs and fans, maybe some conjecture?! Sorry I'm late, lets get this thread pumping! Anyone bring up Erin Marvin or Chay yet?

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

I'll buy the argument that the losing team should stop playing hard because "the game was clearly over" when the team that's ahead stops trying to score another goal.

Who has said any team should stop playing hard?
Playing hard does not mean playing dirty.
Leitner and Hayes both made dirty, unnecessary hits.

But that's the point. Saying it was a "dirty hit" implies that there was intent to injure the guy he was hitting. It implies that Hayes and Leitner were doing something that with disregard for the rules. The fact of the matter is that very few players are trying to hurt someone. Most times (even the 5-minute variety of penalties) happen because a the checker got in bad position or the person they were hitting moved in a way that was unexpected. That's not blaming the guy that gets injured. It's not condoning what anyone did. It's just simply saying that a guy made an illegal hit. They got penalized. Unfortunately, Hanowski got hurt. That sucks, a lot, but doesn't make those guys dirty players.

So, Gravel made a dirty, unnecessary hit as well AND got thrown out of the game so it was obviously worse. Does that make SCSU a dirty team?

Seriously, this is a stupid argument. There are very few teams that are dirty. This is sour grapes and it's pointless.

I'm not saying they are dirty players, I'm saying they were dirty hits, one does not imply the other.
If either had a history of it, then maybe I'd be saying they are dirty players, but as far as I know they don't.
It still does not mean the hits were not dirty or cheap hits to make, because in my mind they were and neither hit needed to happen and in both cases a stronger penalty (i.e. a DQ) may discourage them from happening.

Re: Minnesota vs Minnesota State: Home and Home 11/2-11/3

I believe the point FTLT was making was that they went after two captains, both with late hits, both when the game was out of or getting out of reach, and the Drew hit was with 4 minutes left in the game. Do they rationally go through the thought process "I wanna hurt this guy/injure this guy?" No, probably not, but they play with reckless abandon and aren't being careful, and its out of frustration. You get frustrated and hit a woman you're still responsible for your actions, you can't simply say, "Well I wasn't trying to hurt her." And I'm sure you guys will realize this once Mankato gets players talented enough to care about.

Can't speak for the rest of my fanbase but I'm fine to let you and Gopher fans get after it, but to say that we're out of line after multiple hits like that in two routes is pretty "head in the sand."

You wanna compare the Gravel hit to the other two? D'oh-kah

Way to jump to conclusions there.
I have not seen or heard one person say Gravel's hit was dirty.
You want to claim sour grapes, fine, you can, but I have a feeling if it had been SCSU guys hitting your squad that way, you'd be saying the same thing I am.
Again, I'm not saying your players are dirty, just that those two hits, on our two captains, were.
