Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

Minnesota plays Bye again this weekend, not on the 17th and 18th like the thread says, but who cares.

Good call, don't see the Gophers winning this weekend so no reason to burn a new thread on that anyway. :D

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

I would still like the Big10 teams to do well in non-conference games. We want the Gophers to finish as high as possible in the PWR, and that goal would be much more easily accomplished if teams like Michigan and Wisconsin would start winning out of conference. In the end it may not matter if the Gophers win most of the games they should, both in and out of conference, but this is by no means assured. So until we get into conference play I'm all in as far as how the other teams do...and right now as MNAmhFan notes it's not looking very good.

I don't find seeding to be all that important. It's a nice feather in the cap to be a #1 seed, but aside from that there isn't too much value. Last change throughout and staying close to home are the only real advantages, and the latter can sometimes end up working against you depending on sites and how the final PWR shakes out (you can be the #2 overall and still end up with a really difficult environment for that regional final).

So as long as MN is in the top 12 that is all that really matters to me. The most important placement for the team is where they sit come tournament time on that "playing to their potential" arc.

I'd like to see the B1G do well. I can't help to believe it wouldn't help recruiting to be playing in the best conference in the country vs. ...well...the Big Ten.

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

Prediction: 2 losses. No goals scored. (Wish they would stop scheduling Bye)

If we do happen to win both I hope we don't move down in the rankings like we did after sweeping Providence.

I would agree with your point, but it's not really what the initial exchange was about. I was simply saying, at the time, that as long as the Gophers won the games they should it didn't make a lick of difference how the Big10 as a whole fared - in regards to the PWR. The reason being that seeding doesn't mean very much in the current format. I think Providence proved that

But again, I agree with your point. If the Big10 continues to be a second-rate conference, I can't see how that wouldn't affect recruiting. As much fun as it is to see Wisco suck, as a Gopher fan with an eye toward the long-term, I hope they can get their **** together. I think the teams that can carry the Big10 are MN, Mich and Wisco. If any one of them are perennially weak, I'm afraid it is going to affect the others.

The good thing about having Bye on this weekend is I can go to Halloween parties without having to worry about watching the games. No chance of winning = I don't want to watch

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

Strange scheduling that you would have Bye weeks so close together; it would be better to have a bye week later in the season to rest up, wouldn't it?

I agree, it would suck to have bye weeks so close together. This thread was dug up from last year so we didn't really have a bye yet this season. :)

Though when we play becky later this season we will have another bye week, which is nice.

Bye goaltender has a great GAA and save %, tough to score on.

0-0 tonight I'm thinking.

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

Anyone have a score tonight? I can't find it anywhere.

Undefeated against Bye. I can always look forward to this matchup to brighten my mood.

This weekend's sweep should bolster the team's confidence, but the schedule gets considerably tougher next weekend.

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

Big weekend for others in the B1G for the PWR. The conference faces the best of other conferences in BU, DU, Tech and even has what is often a tough trip to AK. This weekend could make it more difficult to get extra teams into the tourney.

Re: Minnesota vs Bye Week: 10/17 & 10/18

I am so relieved we escaped this weekend without a loss! But things get a little tougher, beginning Friday, then a day off, then Sunday. Players and fans should be well rested.
New thread?
