Minnesota @ UMD 2/27/10

Re: Minnesota @ UMD 2/27/10

... and that sequence there is a good lesson in what happens when you complete three passes in a row (good scoring chance).

The rest of the period is a good lesson in what happens when you don't complete passes (a massive neutral zone abortion with endless dump-and-chase with little to no forecheck and no shots on goal).

And Schroeder hits the pipe... that's two for MN. Wonderful.

Re: Minnesota @ UMD 2/27/10

UMD outshot MN about 14-5 in that period - but I'm guessing the quality chances are 3-1 or 3-2 in favor of MN.

I think the Gophers can take over the game if they stop taking penalties and start completing a few passes. During the brief periods of time in which they did these things in the first period, they generated high quality chances. I wasn't seeing much of that from UMD even on their powerplays (which is surprising).

Yep stay out of the box and good things will happen. 2 PP goals for UMD last night they don't need any more.

They can stop taking penalties if the get Carman and the newly crowned likes to take penalties king Fairchild off the ice.

MN's PK has been playing well, despite the 2 tUMD PP goals last night, which brings me to address your point about penalties:

Last night: tUMD scores 2 goals. tUMD's goals both came on the PP. Do the math. I think they said that before last night, 44% of their SEASON goals were on the PP. That's insane.

Re: Minnesota @ UMD 2/27/10

Just depends on us and CC. UND is not getting passed by either of them. Not with Tech @UND next week.
It depends on UMD as well. It'd take a miracle for MN to finish 5th in the standings, but 6th is looking realistic with a win tonight. UND will finish 4th or 5th - depending primarily on tonight's outcome (if they beat CC and MN either ties or beats UMD, I think UND will end up 4th - Duluth must travel to UAA to close out the season while UND hosts Tech).

As for the trivia question, given that MN is 4-0-1 in the last 5 at the DECC, the last sweep up there was probably the '06-'07 season.
